How long the batteries usually last in an average guitar effects pedal? (I'm looking into Boost, Wah, EQ, and Fuzz)

That can really vary.

Use rechargeables.

wah (cry baby anyway) last a very long time, delay/echo last about an hour. everything else is kind of somewhere in the middle.
i got the "one spot" 9V adapter with the daisy-chain wire - 5 pedals, no batteries.
fuzz - OD - wah - delay/echo - noise gate, all different brands and ages and it works on them all.
i'd recommend it.

I am trying to figure out how much continuous use they last. I never have any effects on for prolonged periods. hmm.. maybe it's time to sacrifice a battery for the team. But i'll probably forget to keep an eye on the LED.

I have never had a pedal eat a fresh battery in the coarse of a gig or two though. But I can't think of anything I have on for more than a few minutes at a shot.

I guess you could always use rechargeables. But I use a daisy chain, with an adapter. That way it's all wall plug power.

Hi guitarmanjt: I've gone all green. These days I'm using these batteries:

I plug them into one of these:

(Strangely, both of those pictures show Danish technology. They obviously got tired of their pedals running out of juice mid-show...)

Cheers - C

I know it's less than ideal, but I use my Boss tuner to power my two dirt boxes. I run my Crybaby on a battery, and it lasts a long time. Because I use my wah on maybe a couple of songs during any given set, I don't change batteries before every show; I maybe swap them once a month.

Anything else I find tends to suck batteries dry in a matter of hours or, in some cases, minutes.

Unfortunately my Electro Harmonix Nano Clone cant be daisy chained which makes it a pain in the inner sanctum when I use a BOSS BCB-60 board. A battery wont even last a whole rehearsal and I have to have batteries on the go for each show and rehearsal!

You'd probably safe for at least an hour of continuous use. So, unless you have one that's on all the time, you can probably safely get through one gig without worries. If very concerned, I'd replace the batteries after each gig (more or less what I did back when).

The only other info I have is from the husband of a coworker. He works for a company that sets up venues for concerts, including wireless mics, instrument transmitters and other battery devices. They've found nothing (so far) where a battery won't make it through a long set and encore even if on 100% of the time.

If multiple bands are using the same setup, they always chance all the batteries between bands though.

i know there are daisy chain adapters for the one spot that can be used for differences in polarity, 1/8" T/S (like the old DOD, ross, and peavy stomps), and even one that will snap onto a battery plug if the box was never equipped with an adapter plug... might want to check it out.
here's one now...

With my Boss pedals I can get about 2 hours worth of playing time. I use either regular Energizer or Duracell batteries, all others tend to fizz out after about a hour.
