just got a tremolo bar for my CIC squier strat (6-bolt bridge). i think i need to put a pipe on it to get any action out of it.
i'm new to this tremolo thing and was wondering if that's the norm, or can the tension be adjusted... and if so, how? the only way i can figure as i look at the mechanism is maybe to remove a spring, or maybe back off the screws... any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Do a search on "float". Float is how much you have the bridge coming off the body of the guitar which is adjusted by the claw screws. The recommended spec is 1/8". However, many (like myself) go for no float (flush with body) for tuning stability considerations. The number of springs affects how much tension is on the tremelo. Most trem users like 3 springs. I like 4 since I do not use the trem very much at all, but it is still usable. People who don't trem at all usually have 5 springs for ... again ... tuning stability.

thanks 01GT (got a '69 convertible myself)
i ran the search, found the stratocaster setup page, nice and easy now!
i guess the previous owner set the bridge down so it wouldnt move at all. now it works like it should.
thanks.
