I, as you may or may not know, enjoy psychedelic music. It has a very good edge to it, and makes heavy use of the studio; good use. It is an extremely different style, and not liked enough, in my opinion.

I was just wondering if any of you know some cool songs. And I'm talking about that really trippy and spacey stuff, not the lighter poppy stuff i.e. Lovely Rita.

Thanks!

Early Pink Floyd definitely falls into the psychedelic category. Gilmour seems to make good use of the tremolo. Here's another great one from A Saucerful of Secrets. Enjoy...

Hello Hendrixfan99,

This might be what your after
Iron Butterfly------In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida.
Originally it was over 19 minutes long
with a lengthy drum solo, took the whole side of a vinyl
here it's cut but you get the feel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bQZ6l_cq5Y

Cheers.

Dark Star, Eyes Of The World, St. Stephen, Estimated Prophet, Drums and of course Space - and many more - all by the Grateful Dead - many different versions, some are more Psychedelic than others.

You can download many performances from The Internet Archive - the Dead have their own section - http://www.archive.org/details/GratefulDead

Tabs and Lyrics from many places - a good one is http://jdarks.com/ - and he has a youtube channel with 100+ videos on playing the Dead

A Dead Fan :P

Well hendrixfan, you have probably heard this but if not, why not ?
I suppose it's part of the transit from psychdelia to prog rock but an absolute gem. I remember this album when it came out in 69/70 and was blown away by it and still am.
It's King Crimson and the album Court of the Crimson King, the entire album is a timeless classic and quite profound too. I recommend you get this.
This is one track called Epitaph. I hope it hits the spot.

Progressive Rock was a whole different animal from Psychedelic Music. King Crimson, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer were all great bands. Very complex music. It was all an evolution. I never got into the Dead.

"Time Has Come Today" by the Chambers Brothers is raw, uncooked psychedelia.

Screamin' J, Did'nt know that you dug the psychedelic rock, throw some bands out there Rolling Stones-Satanic Majesty, Beatles-Magical Mystery Tour/Sgt.Peppers,all three Hendrix Experience-are you?axis.electric,The Doors-Strange Days/The Doors/Waiting for the Sun, The Chambers Brothers-Time Has Come Today, Creedance-SuzyQ parts 1and2,The Crazy World of Arthur Brown album (amazing keyboard work by Vincent Crane of future Atomic Rooster tragic bi-polarschizonoid LSD influenced dropout similar to Sid Barret, Floyd-'Gates/'Sun/Gumma..., Jefferson Airplane-Surrealistic Pillow, theres so many if you mix above you should feel pretty groovy (i'm not leaving anyone out, you're a fast learner, have fun spinning the vinyl).

For real bent out of shape psychedelia from the Airplane, it's gotta be the album After Bathing At Baxter's, featuring the track-o-whack "A Small Package of Value Will Come to You, Shortly." I'm am sure the song takes it's title from a fortune cookie strip, and I don't know if this album can even be understood if you're not high. :)

Also, Frank Zappa's Lumpy Gravy, while not technically psychedelia, is trippy as hell.

Echo Slapchop here on Zappa. Not psychedilia per se, but if you like Complex music frank was the best.
