Hello all, I just recently purchased one of these, a 1968 Ampeg Portaflex B-12XT Image
After playing through it with my strat and loving the insanely clean tone (think twin reverb clean, just not as loud), epic echo and warbly vibrato(tremolo, whatever) just had to have it, definitely a step up from my HRDV 212 tonewise (IMHO). So I was just wondering, does anyone else here like vintage Ampegs aside from myself?

Also that pic isn't my amp, it's just one I googled and found. Mine is in better condition, I'm just too lazy to take a pic <__< As for price I paid $1000 even including tax, which seemed fair to me for what it was >_>

Wow, that's a dinosaur! 8)

I remember doing gigs years ago and the bass player had a B-15 and would load bottles of beer from the backroom into the cab before the load out. He even would get one of the bouncers to help carry the beer-filled B-15 to his truck!

Our bass player had a B15 too. Great little amp. I've had a few in my day. Great solid amps.

That....is....awesome  Another awesome unexpected feature. I also found out the treble control clicks past the max setting for a top boost, and with my vintage rat though this dinosaur I can get that poor man's Marshall sound. The only con so far (aside from a two prong outlet that will soon be changed) is that nobody manufactures new 7199 tubes anymore so I have to buy NOS. But JJ started making the 7027A again so I lucked out in that respect ^^

I have an Ampeg AX-70... from the 80's when they first came out... not as old as the vintage one you have... which is quite cool. I blew the speaker in mine years back, and replaced it with a crate speaker. Still sounds great for a smaller series Ampeg amp.

Brings back memories -- I started out with a Jet back in 1967 and I moved up to a B-12N by 1968. Having been made "lead guitarist," I used both to attempt anywhere near the volume increasing numbers of rock groups were using at the time. I used the Jet set "very treble" and the Porta-flex set for a deeper tone.

You've got a sweet one there.

A pawn/jewelry store I frequent occasionally had an SVT head for sale a few months back for $300. I didn't have that much to spare so unfortunately I couldn't buy it.
