I have a question and I thought I would throw it to all of you:

Ever since I got interested in playing guitar I have developed the desire to listen to more music than I ever have before. Don't get me wrong I have always loved listening to music...but since I've starting playing guitar a bit I like to explore music more...old/new, blues/metal, etc. Since I started posting on this forum I have started to listening to many artists for the first time (minus a hit song here or there):the Beatles, B.B. King, Miles Davis, Tom Petty, CCR, Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, Pearl Jam, and one of my new absolute favorites...Robert Cray (special thanks to thouston there :D ).

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Just wondering if anyone else, when they opened the door to guitar began to explore music more as I have. Thanks!8)

the same happened with me too. I always loved music, but now I really love music. Blues, grunge, some of todays, country, classic rock. I cannot stop listenin to music. I love it. I really got into blues when i started. I discovered Robert Johnson and BB King and John Lee Hooker. All i do now is music. Video games not so much anymore, I've become really addicted to guitar and music. I love it.

But in short I too have opened my doors to music off all kind ('cept Jazz and Rap)

Thanks for posting stryder1017...I thought I chose a poor topic there for a bit.

I'm totally with you on the blues especially...I've really enjoyed exploring this genre myself! 8)

no prob.

i love exploring blues. its just awesome goin' and basically discovering your roots of classic rock. its amazing how vast my music taste has grown. Scroll thru my ipod youll find bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Motley Crue, Motorhead (Ace of Spades their only good album in my opinon) Judas Priest, scroll down some more youll find Coldplay, Fleetwood Mac, Jeff Buckley, james Blunt. So its amazing what happens when you pick an instrument

Deffinatly, As I picked up a guitar, I Got endorsed Into So many new bands, new styles, new riffs. And then I began learning the bass, And I got into grooving, blues, classic rock, Thats where my music began. I mean sure, I listened to music before I played instruments, but Now I feel the music, and I play it :D

I make attempts at Jazz playing, not too hard if you know basic scales and modes, but then again I don't jam much, either. It is really hard to listen to it though. But it can seriously help your ability to improvise and play with others.

When I started playing three years ago I listened to the types of things a typical 13 year old would. I was a little into pop, a little into metal and a lot into rock. Nothing I listened to was more than five years old.
Guitar got me into metal and hardcore and some classic rock too. Then I saw SRV and that really changed everything. I started getting into blues, and the more I heard the more I liked it. I got interested in jazz too, and I think that now I'm way more open minded when it comes to music. There isn't any kind of music I really hate anymore. (OK, well maybe rap if it even counts as music...) About 90% of the music I listen to now I probably would never have discovered if I hadn't played guitar.

I've always loved all types of music exept opera and rap. Since i've started playing guitar i have just grown to appreciate it more and what it takes to make or produce the music i love. I've especially grown close to blues and bluegrass since they are the roots of what we all know today as rock and country.

I've always loved listening to music but after learning to play the guitar I have found myself more willing to seek out new styles to listen to, learn and play. And even within the styles i already enjoyed I found myself trying to dig deeper into them than previously.
