Hmmm...did it have a tracking number? If so, the tracking number will tell yo exactly where it is at and when it will be delivered. When I call regarding my order, I always ask for the shipping tracking number.

Man ive heard so many horrer stories about GC. If it were me i would go back and demand a refund. Tell them to forget it. And never do buisness with them agan. You can call Sweetwater or go on line sweetwater.com and get quicker than that. Good Luck

I hate GC for many reasons similar to what you've listed. They waste your time. Call them up, "Do you have 'X' guitar in the store hanging up so I can try it? I'd like to buy it." "why yes we do, come on in." **drive 30 minutes to GC** "Can I see 'X' guitar please?" "oh sorry we don't have those in stock." "thanks for wasting my time jerks."

What they say and what they do are always 2 different things, and that's extremely aggravating. I also hate paying a commission on a guitar I've already made my mind up on. I sold the guitar to myself, can I have the commission myself too?

It sucks though because I have a hard time buying guitars online that I haven't played first, and there really aren't too many places to buy a decent electric these days. I think GC pushed most of them out of business.

Good luck with your amp though, hope it all works out for you.

[/quote]Hmm....I order from Amazon online all the time, in fact just ordered from them two days ago, and I always get a tracking number from them via email when my order is shipped. :?:

returned amp was delivered to home base in MO yesterday. i am now waiting to see the new one gets shipped. don't worry, i already sent an inquiry to customer service. hopefully, they have more compassion than the clowns at my store.

anyone know how long it should take to "process a return"?

Oddly enough, i am in the middle of a similar situation. I went to GC to try out a small (cheap) tube amp, not a Fender, but they did't have it in stock. OK, no biggie. I read about 200 reviews on various web sites, and 99.99% were extremely favorable, so I bought one on GC's web site. I got an order confirmation via email, with the order number and the tracking number. I clicked on the tracking number and was taken to YRC.com which said it had no record of the t-number. OK - so I waited a day, tried again, same result. Called GC and was told that they no longer use YRC (why have the link in the confirmation then ?) but to try fedex. I did that to no avail. tried multiple times - same result. By now, it's 4 days since the order was placed. Called to speak to someone there. First call - their system hung up on me after going through press 1 for this 2 for that hell.
STARTING to get steamed. Called again - got someone on the phone and they assured me that they'd check ino it and get right back to me.
4 hours later, I called them and eventually got to a supervisor. The poor guy's ears are probably still hurting. He again assured me that he'd get me the FedEx tracking number. That was yesterday. Today at 5 pm, I contacted them again with a simple "What's up with my order" and within about 10 minutes they updated the contact thread with a UPS tracking number. UPS worked, said In Transit. so maybe before I forget how to play, I'll get the stupid amp. I and my friends have spent thousands at GC over the years and haven't had anywhere near these problems.

More and more lately I hear people telling me about Sweetwater and Samash when I mention to them (fellow players) that I'm going to be getting some new guitars soon. I don't know anything about either company but one friend said Sweetwater really checks the guitars before they ship them and that the guitar you pick out on the site is the actual guitar you receive. That alone really caught my attention. I'm going to check their site out later on tonight. Plus I've got to research more about them I suppose, but I've had 4 people mention them to me in the past week so I guess word of mouth really is the best advertising.

Sweetwater is an awesome place. I've been there many times. Not just a retail store, they have recording studios, performance theater, a snack bar, game room, large warehouse and more. Go to the Sweetwater site, scroll down and on the right take the virtual tour. The best thing is that the service is great whether you call, order online, or go to the store in person.

BACKGROUND INFO:
alright, some of you may know about my recent fender Pro Jr purchase from Guitar Center. unfortunately, it was acting a bit strange. i recently brought it back to the store to make use of my warranty. the issue was a noise that probably shouldn't be there, and i wanted to try a tube swap to see if that was the answer (in fact an employee said i'd be able to do just that).

when i got there, i dealt with the manager, same guy who heard the noise, so i was a bit glad to deal with him of anyone i suppose. but he seemed to sidestep the idea of swapping tubes, and simply pushed the idea of replacing the whole amp. i couldn't argue that, no reason to, and no expense to me, so ok fine. but its very sad indeed, the rest of the amp seemed great, i'm hoping and praying i don't get another problematic amp, yet alone one with other build/component issues. i feel like i might have had it almost right the first time when i think about it, but i figured "what if something goes south after the 30 day warranty? then i'm on my own" (unless i am successful getting manufacturer assistance, which seems to be a toss-up for many people in terms of smooth service and transaction.)

SUMMARY:
okay so 8/16 sunday was the day of amp's return to store. i was told by the higher powers at my store that the old amp would ship back on monday 8/17, AS WELL AS the new amp shipping out from warehouse, and that i'd receive an email when the new amp ships. (now, that does seem a bit odd in some respect, but nonetheless, I do recall being told this). granted, if this is unrealistic, then don't make such a claim, right? read on...

CURRENT "NEWS":
naturally, i haven't received any such email yet. i called the store monday and VERIFIED that the new amp was shipping on monday, so basically i've been told this twice. okay cool...meanwhile, i've been questioning customer service, and here's the first clincher. the new amp will not ship UNTIL THEY RECEIVE THE OLD ONE! well, i was rather burned upon reading that statement. i'm not mad because the new amp won't ship prior to the old one's arrival at the warehouse, i'm mad because i was told differently at the start.
sure, i'm a little anxious to get the new one, PLUS GC currently has my money, and i'm in the cold with nothing, so i may be a bit over impatient, but i just want to make sure everything goes smooth. i may ask the store to provide the tracking number of the return (assuming they have sent it out as promised).

anyway, the icing on the cake was this statement also given by customer service..."it will take about 3 days for the item to get back to us. From there it will take another day or two to get the return processed and the new item shipped out. I would have to say that you will receive the new piece by Monday or Tuesday of next week". THAT pushed me over the edge. again, not mad at the supposed Return Shipment Procedure, but VERY mad at having been lied to by a manager.

Just tell me the truth, ya know? had he been straight up and told me this, i wouldn't be mad. i'd know what to expect and all. instead he obviously told me some bogus bullcrap, probably so i wouldn't have reason to want a refund and buy elsewhere.

it's a shame because the first transaction went pretty well. had the amp been fine, this wouldn't be happening and i'd have had a good experience. but this incident is changing my once positive outlook on GC. it's as if the manager just threw a good thing away.

i can safely say this will be my last time giving them my business. i'm trying to keep my cool though when dealing with any people, because i know how people can be a**holes if they want and have reason to. all i want is to get my amp in one piece and i'll move on. i don't need GC, i have other stores with whom i have good experiences with, simple as that. this will be the last time.

so is my frustration and disgust necessary or am i over-reacting?

what i would do is bring this up with a store supervisor or whoever is in charge of that manager and tell them about the poor assistance of their employees and tell them that it will be the last time you buy anything from them. that'll straighten them out trust me. that just sounds like poor management if ever heard it. i too am a GC customer and i've never had problems with them (but i live in CT so i cant say they are all good)

alright new Pro J on the way. please PLEASE God let this one work like new.

Pro Jr owners, can you give me a percent probability that this PJ will have no problems? LOL...no really, can you?

put it this way, aside from the hum/white noise, have you guys ran across defective units in your quest for buying a fender amp (any tube amp)? or did you always get a good one first time? (i'm looking to form an approximate pass/fail ratio, because i'm that neurotic/paranoid right now, praying hard that this one will be okay. Tube issues is another story i guess)

man i'm just so exhausted after having to deal with GC, holding their hand making sure the exchange went through efficiently. i just want a working amp, that's all. i don't even want to have to return it and buy from someone else, i just want it all to end here, so i can play with my amp, rather than customer service and UPS.

Just relax,
I think the odds are in your favor to get a good one. Yes it is possible that there could be a problem with an amp. I have received an amp before that had issues like bad tubes. Even this is unusual from my experience, and I currently own 4 Fender amps and a Marshall all with tubes. I have owned others. My current Fender amps I have had from 1 month to 5 years and have had no problems with any of them. Try to be optimistic.
