yo, i made an account to ask about how to get my guitars finish done.

im building a fender jazzmaster and i want to have just a normal natural finish for my alder body. id like it to look like this finish Image
although my neck has an indian rosewood fretboard.

can anyone tell me what kind of oils or a good solid process on how to get a bitchin finish like this? id also like to stain my neck a vintage colour but i have no clue on where to start

ive looked at tons of sites and im comming up short.

help me out! thanks

Hey Groovy,
Below is a link to pic's of my tele. I used minwax colonial maple with a gloss lacquer clear coat. The pic you have is a satin finish clear coat. The face of mine is a flame maple veneer. The ash took the stain a little darker look at the edges. The finish you want may be a darker oak. I would suggest testing an area like under the pickguard first. Use a prestain conditioner for an even finish. Check out stewart-macdonald.com they have an amber nitro finish you might try on the neck or you can find amber shellec locally most people like a satin finish on the neck ( not as sticky) using XXX to XXXX steel wool will take the gloss off most finishes. others have suggested reranch.com for finishes too Good luck 8)
