Hey guys, recently took a look at some G&L models and was wondering if anyone had an opinion on them vs. their American made Fender counterparts. Maybe I'm putting the Fender brand at a disadvantage because we're not talking Fender Custom Shop, but I think in terms of price the G&L's may have the edge. What do you think? Thanks!

Are you talking the Tribute series or the full amercian series of G&L? They make great guitars, though some look a little goofy. Leo took his vision of guitars and carried them on when he and George started G&L.

I used to play an ASAT in the studio and that was an amazing playing and sounding guitar. I already have two strats. At this point, if I were going to add a Tele-like guitar, I'd probably go with the G&L Asat with p90's in it.

As all ready stated, the American made G&L are outstanding quality guitars. Up there with the best from anybody.

I prefer Fender for Strats and G&L for Teles (ASAT). However, a semi-hollow Legacy is very appealing right now.

Hmmmm

I grew up playing a 56 TELE so until 1968 i had nothing but TELES and stayed with them until the mid 70's when I got into GIBSON:S for the versatility and different models.

Though G & L make good stuff I still prefer the simplicity of a FENDER TELECASTER and since I do not play STRATS I can;t say though I have heard good things about G&L/

I think if I were to stray from FENDER for a TELECASTER OR A STRATOCASTER I would look at VALLEY ARTS FOR A TELE and some of the UK brands for STRATS.

For some reason G&L's do NOT HOLD THERE VALUE and PEAVEY makes a GREAT TELE and for about 500.00 USA MADE !!!!!!

It's all in what ya want.....a FENDER will sell easier and will hold it's value, BUT if this is gonna be a player then get what YOU LIKE as it is YOUR TONE .
ST LOUIS BLUES makes great TELES, CARVIN but NOTING BEATS A FENDER TELE.....

The G&L ASAT////a bit of trivia do ya know what it means????

In the G&L book LEO called it that because when they were discussing what to build he said I guess ANOTHER STRAT, ANOTHER TELE = ASAT !!

I hope my answer has helped

good lukck in your search....if ya want a GREAT TELE look for a "JV "JAPANESE early 80's as in 81 82.These were the FIRST made in JAPAN and they were out to impress FENDER USA and they did ,
I have 3 JV TELE"S and players compare them to VINTAGE TELE"S...what cost 200.00 i the 80's now sells for 1500.00 in ORIGINAL CONDITION but it is well worth it !!!

The numbers are only on the bridge plate so you'll have to open the neck pocket to see the letters JV in the neck to know you;re not getting aMIJ with a JV bridge plate. BE CAREFULL !!!!

Thanks for the info. I really enjoy doing my homework before making a purchase and you've definitely pointed me in some good directions. That's sort of how I stumbled across G&L. Thanks again for taking the time to share the goodies. PEACE!
