watch hendrix play it and see if you cant figure it out...it will make you a better player rather than just reading some tabs

I haven't seen a accurate tab online, but I have a book 'Jimi Hendrix Experience - Smash Hits: Guitar Play-Along Volume 47' http://www.amazon.com/Jimi-Hendrix-Experience-Play-Along-Leonard/dp/0634074059/ref=pd_sim_b_1 that I brought years ago that is really good.

If you really want the ultimate lesson than get the 'LEARN TO PLAY THE SONGS FROM ARE YOU EXPERIENCED' ($59.95) http://www.authentichendrix.com/pgi-ProductSpec?425-103-027, I have and have learned just about each song.

And if you can't figure it out by listening and watching, the time is simply not right! Sorry if that sounds harsh, but see it this way: Hendrix was an innovative master on the guitar, and a jammer, it's simply wrong to play a Hendrix tune note by note, he didn't even do that himself
Hendrix is feel, not notes, and you'll only get the proper feel by doing it your way

I believe the chord progression is E-G-A (substitute the E with E7#9 and you're rolling). If that's not enough to get you started I doubt you'll get it down convincingly anyhow!

Again, sorry if I seem rude

I don't agree with that statement, if he learns the basics from a tab or book, than this can help him with other songs.

When I first started learning guitar, I learned basic fretboard theory, what note the strings are, chords, scales, etc. But, how does one 'solo'? I didn't know.

It wasn't until I read a lesson in Guitar Player were the author of the article tabbed out George Harrison's solo to 'Let It Be' and wrote about Harrison's use of the pentatonic scale and that the pentatonic scale was movable in all keys. This blew my mind, and started me learning other solos.

With Hendrix, I didn't know you could tune to 'Eb', I read it in Guitar Player. I had already been playing for a few years, and than could start learning Hendrix songs.

So, he 'may not' be ready for eye & ear training, but anything that helps a person to learn, is good for them.

Hendrix breaks the rules too much to learn from his tracks, IF, you aren't on a level where you can see where he steps out of the norm
That's my honest opinion

If you don't know some basic chords and a couple of scales, the only thing you'll get out of learning a song by tab is knowing that song the way it was recorded (and maybe some rip-off licks :P )
If you do however know what the chords are and know your scales, then you'll learn how Hendrix use(and don't use) the scales for his playing and how his rhythm playing works(by trial and error you definitely also learn what NOT TO DO  )
But if you know your chords and scales it shouldn't really be much of a problem making one of the available-for-free tabs work out pretty well, just needs some small adjustments to fit the individual player

If theres no way you can do it by the ressources available by now, get a good tab book, that shows notation as well, learn how the rhythm is translated in totation, and focus on learning what licks is played over which chord, that'll all be in there if the tab costs anything
And don't forget, theres some wrong stuff in published tabs as well, just a bit less, for instance, if a guitar part is overdubbed because someone missed a note, the 'tab'er' will give you multiple guitar lines

there ya go

i have the actual sheet music for purple haze b/c i have the Are You Experienced? tab book with both tab and sheet music, so i recommend you go and buy some books. Because one thing about guitarists is that they NEVER stick to the original version when playing it live

What Thouston said was right on the money. And yes go get that dvd the songs from are you experienced as Andy Aledort is a master of the Hendrix catalog. This dvd breaks down every song on the UK release of the album that is why there are more cuts but there is no tab and the slow examples are going bto go by to fast so do what I did when I had this on vhs tape go get the tab books by Andy Aledort especialy the one that comes with the cd I forget the name and lock yourself away for a year and you will come out blazing. Now this does really help if you are at a point where you know your pentatonic scales and have all your basic and bar chords down. But even if you are not there yet start with a song like Hey Joe or The Wind Cries Mary as these two will slowly lead you into the world of Hendrix.

That's right, and it's in standard tuning not Eb. Most of the other songs are in Eb, but not Purple Haze.

This is a good opinion. I'm altogether too often astounded by guitar players who have spent years perfecting one -- and only one -- technique: learning songs note for note. I have a mate who, if you didn't know, would sound like a great guitar player. One time, when we first started running together, we decided to jam. I said something to the effect of "blues in A" and launched into a Mr. Berry riff. He had no idea what was going on: structure, progressions, and even common chords eluded him because he learned to play note-by-note without regard for the broad strokes.

You have to walk, my friend, before you can run. Scales, chords, progressions. Learn them, and you'll be amazed.
