Is there anybody on the forum that remembers or sorta remembers their memories of Woodstock? I wish I could've gone but I was a 90's baby. Just curious to hear what it was like from a real attender.

P.S. Anybody catch the VH1 Rock Doc: Woodstock Now & Then?

You have stumbled onto an enigma with your question.

Haven't you heard the saying, "If you remember the 60s, you weren't really there"?

"Peace, love and Woodstock, man!"

I'm an old fart today, but I was just 14 back then -- too young to go.

Anyway I didn't even hear about it until it was just about over.

I didn't go to Woodstock, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

After Woodstock there was a small music festival in Lubbock, Texas. My band, Stone County, opened the show. The Hog Farm was there and I carried a mixing board with Wavey Gravey. 8)

More noteable bands on the bill:

Bangor Flying Circus
Buddy Miles
Barry McGuire
James Cotton Blues Band

That's all I remember...at least I think I remember.

i was 11 years old at the time... didn't go, but followed all the news reports, did my best to draw that awesome logo, and thanks to a late friend and neighbor, was familliar with ALL the bands that played there.
i had a bunch of the neighborhood kids asking me to draw the logo on jackets and tee shirts... even book-covers. i remember the controversy about hendrix's version of the SSB, the people who got pissed because they bought tickets, and then they started letting people in free, the reports of the baby born, and the death, the rain, the mud... i dunno... kinda feel like i may have transcended... i was really into it, but too young to go, and my parents were rather stoic... made me visit the barber regularly, couldn't wear jeans to school.
my cousin lost his life in viet nam that same year, so i appreciated country joe's take on the international situation... although like most kids, didn't really understand it. i still have the MIA bracelet my aunt gave me.
closest event in my life was the berkshire mountain bluegrass festival, '80 and '81. got the sticker on my ovation case :)

They still make money from from wood stock  I was to young to go there being I was just getting ready to go into sixth grade  All my early concerts were near home at Merriweather post. We were only ten, fifteen minutes from home and then we saw a lot at the Capital center doing the 70's (Zeppelin, Clapton ect.ect.)

LOL. Merriweather was where I went to my first concert...I mean Kiss at the Capital Center in '79 was technically my first concert, but I was only 4 years old...In 1989 I believe it was, I went to Merriweather and saw Ozzy Osbourne, who at the time featuring a new guitarist named Zakk Wylde, and had White Lion and Vixen opening up...

There's actually more than 2:
Declined Invitations

1. The Beatles (John Lennon said he couldn't get them together)
2. Led Zeppelin (Got a higher paying gig at the Asbury Park Convention Hall in New Jersey that weekend)
3. Bob Dylan (Turned it down because of his disgust of the hippies hanging around his house)
4. The Byrds (Turned it down because of a melee during their performance at the first Atlanta International Pop Festival, held at the Atlanta International Raceway on July 4 and July 5, 1969)
5. Tommy James & the Shondells (Turned it down because of being misinformed about the size and scope of the event)
6. Jethro Tull (Turned it down because they thought it wouldn't be a big deal.)
7. The Moody Blues were included in the original posters as performers, but backed out after taking a gig in Paris on the same weekend.
8. Spirit (they had other shows planned and did not want to back out of their commitments; not knowing how big that Woodstock would ultimately become)
9. Mind Garage (Declined because they thought it wouldn't be a big deal and had a higher paying gig elsewhere)

i didnt know that all i knew were the Beatles and the Doors (who canceled last minute, the cancellation was most likely due to Jim Morrison's known and vocal distaste for performing in large outdoor venues.)

but as for the others i didnt know that. thank you for that piece of Rock 'n Roll trivia. Filed in my memory warehouse.

The place is still going strong. A few years ago someone tried to buy the property and use it as a housing development. Houses out in Howard County no days at the lowest are 500K and up. There was a lot of uproar because of all the music history going back to 1967 so it went nowhere. Between now and the end onf the month they will be having

Judas Priest
August 23, 2009
Heaven and Hell (Ronnie James Dio / Tony Iommi / Geezer Butler / Vinny Appice
August 28, 2009

The last show of the year is in October and it's the Allman Brothers band.
