But a Macbook comes with BootCamp, so you could still run MS apps.

I've been listening to some of these songs done using Garageband and it amazes me :

http://www.garageband.com/

Just about any genre is covered, great site, imo.

Yes, you can. Word files are cross-platform... files created in Word for Mac open on Windows machines, too.

this thing with the price is ridiculous ! i bought my imac for 1,300 euros but everything is included & the quality is superior. 8) if you buy windows you would probably give 1000 euros for the hardware & the software & 200 euros for office... & the quality is crappy!
most of the people who use windows havent the authentic office & then they cant use it.

so....

I have heard this 'quality of components' garbage from mac guys for a long long time. Yes Mac components were so much better that they switched to intel chips. Oh wait!! intel chips, that mac users were calling inferior for over a decade?

Here I found a Mac book, and a PC notebook. Pretty close on specs.

Similar specs, except the mac at 100 dollars more has a 2 inch smaller screen.

To get the same size screen, and a very small amount of performance increase on a Mac wouls cost $1000 dollars more.

Price is a huge issue. I only use the above examples because its the same store. With a mac that is all you can get here. Only a few places have em. You can't get a custom made one, or build your own. But if I shop around I can get a 17" screen PC laptop with the same specs as the 13" screen apple for the same or less money.

If are going to use it for the right applications a Mac is worth buying. Garage band goes a long long way toward making up some of the price differential.

I am just saying, tha for the average user, they are just too pricey for what you get.

I use a Mac, they just seem to run better.

At the University of Illinois' music department, the only computers are Macs, so maybe that says something. :]

You can use NeoOffice; it opens .doc, .xls. .ppt, etc and it's free

I don't do any recording (no one would want to hear my meager skills yet)...but I've been PC since I first tapped a keyboard. 8)

rholloman: your pricing is so far wrong it's incredible.

I am sitting next to an desktop 8-core 2,8 ghz Mac Pro with 4 gigs of RAM and three internal hard drives. Total investment: $2,500.

There is no way in hell you can spend 13,000 American dollars on a computer, Mac included, "maxed out" or not.

Now, why doesn't somebody just post a picture of Calvin pissing on an Apple logo and get this stupid thread over with?

PC.

Twelvebar gave the sensible reasons.

My irrational reasons are that I dislike Apple as a company in so many ways. What a snotty, up themselves outfit!

I do have an iPod because I was given it as a gift. I was given an iPhone too, but it annoyed me too much. Actually, half of what annoyed me was people ooh-ing and aah-ing when I pulled it out (back when they were new). It's a phone - get over it!

I gave it away.

Now. Back to my cave...

Cheers - C

twelvebar has it right.

It's always been PC's for me. And at the enormous cost of a mac - it will stay a PC - or maybe no computer (been thinking about that too)

Now, IF, the Apple people would get their heart right ..... maybe ......
