No, they're just different. It took me about six months to really feel comfortable with my Mac. Now I can negotiate both operating systems without difficulty. 8)

My son has a Macbook ($900) w/ student discount, I'm amazed at what he can do with Logic, as well as Garageband.

We both run Firefox on our computers.

Logic Express and Garageband make it very tempting for my next upgrade to be a Mac.

To be able to play a riff, change the BPM, length and key, and use it in various different tracks is "magical."

My favorite graphics designer also uses a Mac. She's wonderful :

I'm a Mac guy from way back. That said, THIS argument is about as useless as any MIM vs MIA or rosewood vs maple or this vs that thread can be.

I find Macs tend to be superior because Apple doesn't make crappy Macs. So a Mac guy compares his machine (which weighs in at 1 to 2 grand) to a $200 Best Buy throw away special and thinks "Why would anyone use this?". But that is apples to oranges (pardon the pun) The fact is, there are truly superior PCs out there too. They usually don't have names like Dell or Compaq on them, but they exist.

My Mac gets out of my way, so I can get things done. I'm sure Windows folks feel the same about their machines. In fact when I first sat down with XP Pro Service Pack 2, I remember saying "This is what it should have been all along. This is totally useable."

I doubt I'll ever love a PC like I do my Mac. But I got over the "vs" junk a long time ago, and I'm happier for it.

he has a pretty valid point there guys... a mac will cost you about £800 if you buy a pc for £800 then its probably about the same quality... its just we all mainly prefer the mac becuase it has Garage Band and a few other goodies but Windows has its own gems that aren't on the mac.

Still want a mac though...

Ipod touch.
post and groove all in the privacy of my own headphones and it fits in my pocket.

Gotta admit though they are prone to breaking. Particularly when you try to use it as a claw hammer. Luckily apple seem to have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to 'lost head' nail indentations.

I'm a Mac. :D

I worked 27 years in the Prepress Graphic Arts trade, and when the computers came along the Macs were the workstations, and the PCs were mainly servers and RIPs. My first home computer was a Mac, of course.

As a teacher, I got used to Macs, which is what my school system uses, so when it came time to getting a laptop, I ended up with a Mac Book Pro. I waited until the new ones came out, then used my Educators discount to by the previous model, which immediately went on clearance the day after the new ones were released. I got a great price, and I've been very pleased with it.

I agree, the educator and even student discounts, help out a lot.

I started out learning on Macs. My school and all of my friends at the time had them. Eventually they all switched to PCs and I had to adapt. Now I have a PC myself.

I've always used a Mac at home, PC at work. I make 3D animations for a living, and traditionally PCs have had more support for the required applications. There have always been a couple of decent 3D options for the Mac, but at an unacceptable price to performance ratio. I prefer Macs on the whole, but I'm not evangelical about it — they're easier on the eye, and they're user-friendly enough that even my not-quite-two-year-old son can find his way around. Probably he'd be able to do that on a PC, too, though I haven't tried it out. I find the platforms to be fairly interchangeable... I'm surprised I found the energy to post in this thread! :)

Perhaps I've become complacent, or jaded... one thing I will say in favour of PCs, though: You can edit, move or delete any file you like while you're still in the "Save As" dialogue box. Very handy if you're saving a scene and something about the current file makes you realise that you'd be better off renaming a couple of items you'd saved earlier, or just putting them somewhere else. Doesn't sound like much, but it makes a difference when you're generating thousands of files a day. On a Mac I'd have to cancel the Save As and open a finder window to navigate to the files I wanted to change, adding about half a dozen unnecessary mouse-clicks to the process.

Everything else is just window dressing, but hey, appearances are important when you're staring at something all day.

this thing with the price is ridiculous ! i bought my imac for 1,300 euros but everything is included & the quality is superior. 8) if you buy windows you would probably give 1000 euros for the hardware & the software & 200 euros for office... & the quality is crappy!
most of the people who use windows havent the authentic office & then they cant use it.

so....

Mac user since 1990. Apple almost lost me 7 years ago when the Classic MacOS was showing signs of age and I took a serious look at Windows notebooks. Then OS X came along and I stayed with Macs.

My two Mac notebooks with Intel processors and logic boards _are_ PCs. I can install Windows on them and run it at native speed with Boot Camp or I can use a virtual machine environment and run OS X and Windows simultaneously. I haven't done it but it's nice to know I can if there is a Windows app I can't live without.

Interesting about the ability to run Windows on a Mac. My son said something about that too as he runs MS Office for school.
