I'm pretty sure most are still using PC's running Windoze, but wanted to get a feel for how many are using a Mac or Macbook. :?:

Lately, I've heard that many musicians (and graphics people) prefer a Mac
for recording and creativity.

Nope, PC all the way for me. I can record on my PC, but I prefer recording with either my BR-600 or BR-1600.

FOR ANYTHING ARTISTIC whether it be MUSIC or PHOTO"S or movies NOTING CAN BEAT A MAC,

It comes with a program called GARAGE BAND which is better than some PC programs that cost ya 300.00 or more.

My2 cents

I bought a Mac desktop a little over a year ago and a Mac PowerBook Pro laptop about a month ago. Windows has been banished from my house! 8)

My Dad has had macs since the 80s, and I grew up with them so I'm used to them. The first time I tried a PC I was thinking man, this is lame! How can I find anything on here?

In the 20+ years (which more than includes my lifetime) that my Dad's had a mac, he's never gotten a single virus. We had one PC that lasted about 3-4 years. But we still have a macs from 1991, 1996 and 2000. They all work fine. They just don't have enough power anymore. I think that macs end up being cheaper in the long run because they last so long and they rarely, if ever need to be repaired.

And Garage Band is awesome, I've been using Garage Band since I was 11. That's actually how I figured out how to structure a song. Even before I could play guitar I'd take the little loops on Garage Band and put together songs.

I'm a PC guy from way back. Back in the day, our office had about 75 PCs for our day to day work and one Apple II used for desktop publishing. I keep hearing that the Mac is better for for audio and visual applications, but most of the time I'm doing spreadsheets or on the web.

And then there's the price difference . . .

P.C. I like using Window XP Pro. I have it on two desktops and two laptops. Not sure if I like service pack 3 or wish I had kept service pac2. The third service pack was just all the SP2 updates and a few other things added. The problem was that some of the updates I did not install from SP2 because of software conflicts and SP3 tuurned around and put them in then it was a pain to do the work arounds. Macs are nice but the cost is rediiculous they hundred dollar you to death for every accessory and the software is just expensive.

Its MAC for me, I've used them since they were born, I do use pcs at work...
what a drag. For recording I use Logic, as well as Garage Band.
In my opinion I think MAC is just a better workhorse. I also think that if Windows 7 does not fix the Vista crap, Mac will be the obvious choice.

MUSIC wise I TUNES is about the best....or the base that others copied.

This is patently untrue. I tunes was far from the first, and there is in fact legal action against apple for using code developed by Creative Labs. Personally I much prefer Creative labs to Itunes, but that's horses for coarses I guess. Itunes, and Ipods were clearly the best marketed, but that is not the same as best quality, or best value.

ACTUALLY WINDOWZ was copied from APPLE back in the early 80's

Are you actually sure about this. Also the mac operating system and windows were modeled after the GUI invented by Xerox.

St James wrote:
Plus MAC"S are not as open to VIRUS"S at all......I have one of each a DELL PC to do things like banking, research, and just surfing but the MAC DOES NOT GO ONLINE unless it is to fetch some new piece of hardware or plug in needed.

macs are less susceptible to virus infection primarily because they have such a smaller user base. Put flatly people don't try to write as many viruses for apple. I have never in 15 years of using PC's had a single infection.

THEY are expensive but for a reason..sale as GEETAR GEAR !!!
Marketing.

You want to do some great recording get the upgraded version of GARAGE BAND and you will NOT need a STUDIO again...you can actually do a complete cd with your MAC at at better than expected tonal quality and the ability to edit, add sounds and extra tracks with ZERO PROBLEMS.
I also find MAC"S much easier to figure out how to use.

Both computers are pretty easy to use. I agree here, Garage band is far and away better than anything free, or cheap on the PC. High end stuff is another story, but Garage Band fills a huge market niche, and there is nothing even close available on PC until you shell out big bucks.

REMEMBER at one time ALL SCHOOLS had MAC"S in em;..but then APPLE got greedy and raised all there contracts they had with EVERY SCHOOL in the USA....soon they found themselves on the outside looking in after BILL GATES released his WINDOWS !!!

When I was in high school in the 80's and computer science classes were just starting we had IBM clones (PC's) and Apple ]

After a ton of lawsuits about WINDOWS being stolen from APPLE ended with a victory for BILL GATES..since is programs did not work n APPLE COMPUTERS MICROSOFT began to win it's place in the home soon the LOW PRICES OF WINDOWS MACHINES is what put them into the forefront.
Apple didn't win because their case wasn't valid.

St James wrote:
If it were not for IMAC APPLE would be dead...but the quality of there VISUALS and SOUND TECHNOLOGY is second to NONE !!!!

I agree there too. But when you actually get into the realm of professional quality programs, there really isn't a lot of difference, and really by the time you are spending that kind of money, there are better options than either company.

My 2 cents are, Apples are way over priced for the average home user. the differences in quality are not worth the steep difference in price to performance for most people.
If you want to record, or do some decent video editing, then a Mac is a better choice, unless you have enough money to buy some professional equipment.

I have built my last 3 PC's myself. i had total control of what went in it. they do exactly what I want. I have absolutely no issues with malware, viruses, or reliability.

i'm a professional graphics person and.. ehem... i'm a pc.
what i've found over the years is that designers are usually using mac, but when it comes to producing their designs, the files need to be converted to run the PC-based machinery... sometimes it works... sometimes, well, y'know.

get a real computer... get a pc.
