For obvious reasons. Show the proper respect where its due. Competitor or not.
A little grace is needed in this world.

Well, I've never really bought into to the Fender/Gibson "rivalry," but I would like to point out that Leo Fender's 100th birthday would have been August 10, just three days ago. Although I confess I did not check to make sure, I suspect this did not make the front page of the Gibson website.

I think we can all agree that Les Paul made many great, lasting contributions to the world of music, but your suggestion just doesn't hold water.

Oh, and welcome to the Fender forum! 8)

Completely agreed.

It didn't even make it to the Fender News Page! Les has made it to the News Page. As I mentioned in another topic, don't jump on Fender people for this yet, give them time to write something good. They took more than a day for Fullerton, give them a few for Les- this just happened.

By the way- Gibson didn't even put a blurb on Fullerton's death. Why not create an RIP George Fullerton username on the Gibson forums in your crusade for justice. If you do, please time how long it takes for the post to be deleted on that forum.

Fender as a company doesn't feed into the rivalry, Fender fans do. The opposite can be said for Gibson. Even Fender employees will say the guitars are apples to oranges and it is ok to like both/ own both.

Great article--And there on the album cover in the article--one of Les Paul's Clunkers--while the Log gets a lot of attention as one of the earliest solidbody electric guitars--he did a lot recording and performing before 1952 on his clunkers--they had metal plates and bars in them to cut down on the feedback--and they apparently worked. Plus, they look cool.

Les will be missed.

Why are so many people on this planet so terrified of behaving with at least a modicum of class?

Some people just like to stir up the poo pot. Although Lester will be missed terribly, and his contributions cannot be over stated, 94 is a good run. I hope I go that long and still gig every Monday night. He surly deserved his legendary status.

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. Fender posted a brief notice of Les Paul's death at http://www.fender.com/news/index.php?display_article=365

The fact that it didn't make the front page--as suggested by new user les [sic] paul [sic] RIP--does not indicate a lack of "class." :?

I love gibson (but Fender More) but we probably wouldn't be talking about gibson right now if it wasnt for Les Paul.

Show some respect

Pardon me for being obtuse, but I remain confused. Can you provide evidence of a lack of respect?

Welcome to the Forum. I think props for Mr. Les Paul has been given here. The people at Fender may be slow posting Guitar News, but they just want to present it in the best light possible. You know honoring the man, not the guitar (or company for that matter).
