Since we don't have a PM system I had to make a topic. Anyway, I believe we currently share hunting grounds, as I moved to your part of Norway last week (that's Bergen, for those who might wonder). I just figured it would be cool to let you know, and now that I actually know my way around, you could maybe drop off a few useful tips (guitar shops, good music scenes etc.)

Bergen er en utrolig trivelig by 8)

Bergen er fantastisk :D

The number one place to shop instruments is definitly Hagstrøm Musikk located at Strandgaten 197 ( http://maps.google.no/maps?hl=no&client ... e&resnum=1 )
Another good place is Musik Magazinet next to the theatre.

As for local venues check out Garage,Madam Felle,Hulen and of course Koengen where the big ones play

So where do you live in Bergen now?

EDIT: If there's anything else you want to know, just ask.

sorry about the lax replying, we don't have any internet connection at home yet

I live around Solheim, Danmarksplass, or that general area anyway. Takes about twenty minutes to walk downtown.

I'm checking out Hagstrøms today, got some time to kill, thanks for the advice :)

Why should these Norwegians have a thread all to themselves? I want to play...

As we say here, it don't exist without pictures. So, Just so's other Forum users can visualise what you are both talking about, here are some pictures I took of Bergen when arriving by sea:

Bergen is much bigger than that looks. It stretches away around the mountain - that's just the entrance to the harbour.

Bluestube and Ulrika will know the sight of this ship very well - that's me in the big hat...:

Image

I've got about 200 other pics of the Norwegian coast between Tromso and Bergen too. Be very nice to me and I won't post them all...

Take care, Hop - I have whole hard drives full of photos just waiting to bore everyone with...

Just one more from Norway. I believe these mountains are called the Severn Sisters, probably after some saga or other. Pretty but not apparently impressive - till you look at the little houses at the bottom. Then you realise how large they are: we were told they're a kilometre high. Quite cool as you ride past in a boat...

That's pretty cool how 2 guys leaving a few miles apart in a seemingly small remote town (well from what it looks like from NY) can find themselves on a site that is like 4000 mile away.

Bluestube,
Thank you ,the photos of your home town are giving me a bad case of "Pack the luggage-itis". How long does it take to go from water's edge to the top of the mountains?

John.E :)

It depends on two things, wich mountain you want to go to, and how you want to get there.
The fastest way is to Fløien, it's like a 10 minute walk from the harbour to where the "train" goes to the top (i forget the proper word in english.)

When you pack be careful not to forget your raincoat and your umbrella! We get our fair share of rain here in western Norway you see :)

Bluestube, yup - I found it no problems all right 8) A nice selection they've got. I only bought a slide and some strings to begin with. Are you going to see Bjørn Berge at Hulen next wednesday?

I also have some pictures from Bergen somewhere, but they were taken at night, under rather festive circumstances. Might not be that interesting here
