If you ever get a chance, watch the documentary Chasing Sound. I knew that Les Paul had contributed a lot to music, but I had no idea he was so influential and important. He truly changed the history of music.

It was on PBS, and I think you can buy the DVD for about $20.

It’s truly a sad day in the world, or at the very least my world.

RIP my friend; you will truly be missed….but your legend is now forever immortal. Thank you for inspiring billions of people……very few can say that…

My grandmother introduced me to Les Paul back when I was just a lad. She was in her 90's when she passed away, and she left me her old 45 record collection. And there, were the singles that she played me by Les Paul and Mary Ford.

It wasn't until I was 12 or so that I learned he multi-tracked his recordings. From then on, I started experimenting thanks to him. He was a big influence... just as much as The Beatles were to me.

I don't think he wasted a single minute of his life...

Now it's time for him to rest...

Thanks, Les...

I would bet that this segment of the industry will provide a tribute befitting the man. His influence is practically universal with respect to the evolution of the state of the art in music production. 8)

Doc, you may have been one of the last forum members to see him perform live?

I was shocked to see this news this morning. A friend of mine (Bill Lawrence) actually got to play with Les Paul and I have heard a story or two that were fabulous.
Rest In Peace Les Paul. Be assured your name and what you have done for music will be remembered forever.

I will spend some time this evening playing my Les Paul in his honor.

On the other thread 63Supro advises that he saw him at the Iridium in November...a month after I did.

Go to: http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/video?id=6508558 for the performance I attended. It was covered by local TV. The bald headed
guy at the feet of the master, to HIS right, is yours truly.
