To be honest I think it is a dead tie between the Stratocaster and Les Paul.

I'd have to agree. Through the 50's and most of the early 60's it was the stratocaster, but during the late 60's and pretty much all rock bands of the 70's used the Les Paul. So I'm agreeing with this guy

Like most others on this post I yhink it's a dead tie betwean Les Paul and The Strat. However The guitar player in my band has two Les Pauls one a 58 and the other a newer one. And i think they sound awesome with my P-Bass. I also have other friends with strats that scream.

Definately the Strat because of how many copies they are. It has been flashed in everyone's face for a long time and more people will point to a Strat shape when asked which guitar is most familiar. The shape is identifiable to most people, but many couldn't name it. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that if there were a guitar superhero, the silhouette of a strat would be lit across the sky like the bat signal.

this strat sold for 2.8 million dollars, and then was donated back and sold again, it ended up raising 3.7 million dollars

and that strat broke the record fro eric claptons blackie which sold for $959,500

and the record before that was the white strat jimi hendrix played at woodstock

Did you see the meteorite picks on that site? That was probably the coolest thing there! 2nd Runner up is the wooly mammoth ivory nut on the most expensive bass.
