I have noticed that whilst changing strings recently, I damaged a little section of the Fender sticker on the headstock of my '52 RI Tele. It is not that much of a problem but I am a little concerned that it may get worse. Is it possible to replace the sticker, or for an authorised Fender dealership to do so?

Thanks

From everything I've heard, this is nigh on impossible, but you can try. Good luck!

But those are counterfeit or bootlegged and therefore illegal.

From what I've heard, it's not impossible to get a new decal if you have a real Fender guitar. But getting one because the one you have has some minor damage? That might be asking a bit much.

I guess its defo not at the point were it needs to be replaced, yet, but it is comforting to know that if it does deteriate, Fender will sort it.

Hi Paulie: yes they will. As you'll have seen in that FAQ russianracehorse linked to, it is a tedious process. That's to try to prevent legit logo decals getting out into the world - a bit of a losing wicket, but they must do what they can.

For the record, we've had several Forum users go through the process: it's slow but it does work.

BTW: if your Tele is a reissue it may well have the logo decal on top of the lacquer; because that's how they were originally made. If yours is like that then of course it makes the decal rather vulnerable to knocks and scrapes. Some people deal with that by shooting a thin layer of lacquer over the top to seal it in.

One option; provided you know what you're doing with lacquer. Or have someone do it for you.

Some thoughts.

Cheers - C

The American Vintage is a s you described with the sticker over the lacquer.
What type of lacquer would I employ?

Thanks

Hi again Paulie: the American Vintage models are comparatively unusual these day in using nitrocellulose lacquer on their necks.

Two ways to go. If you are confident with it you can conveniently buy an aerosol of nitro from a supplier such as:

http://www.behlen.co.uk/

The product you want is:

http://www.behlen.co.uk/Merchant2/merch ... RFINISHING

Behlen are in the UK and unlike Stewart-MacDonald will mail order you that product to Ireland. There are other suppliers, too.

It's not too difficult, but if you haven't done it before there's some stuff you need to know before attempting it. If you want, ask and I, Mr twelvebar or several others here will be happy to talk you through it.

Alternatively, just ask a decent guitar tech to do it for you. It's not a very challenging job and shouldn't be too expensive.

Cheers - C

You don't want it to end up like this :

They really have to do away with that sticker. I have it on my Clapton and it is just awful and who wants to deal with Fenders customer service.
