Hi Gang,

I see a lot of folks have their guitars outside in the hot sun and humidity, out at the beach or by the pool etc. I have resisted this myself. So my question is, are quality made guitars able to take the abuse?

Bill

Hi Bill, they can but they'll become weather worn in the process. Some instruments will show signs of abuse pretty quickly depending of the kind of treatment they went through. I personally don't even take my 200 bucks acoustic outside when it is too cold. If I had to do firecamp music, I'd do as Chet did, get myself a beater so I don't have to worry about it. :)
Maybe a guitar like Willy Nelson has.
See ya.

Hello Bill948,

Well today here it was in the high 90's with high humidity.
I did my strummin with a long sleeved shirt to give the guitar
a bit of persperation protection. No air conditioning in my humble
abode and on days like this the word misery comes to mind.
I also apply a good wax for protection and try to stay out of the sun.
I'm looking forward to cooler weather.

Cheers.

You just have to find a shady spot when the sun is blaring .I dont think the night would have a negative effect . Then again I live in NY city noy much open space.

I've played Fender Strats and Teles on cruise ship gigs during tropical and steamy air masses as well as some heavy downpours, but they seem to take a lickin' and keep on tickin' 8)

They will show their battle scars though.

Taking your guitar outside won't hurt a thing as long as it's not just sitting there and it is wiped down good when it's brought back in. I've taken my solid woods acoustics outside for a couple hours of playing and it is just fine. Just remember not to prop them up and leave them where the heat or humidity can cause them to warp.

That guitar will probably end up in a museum someday as an icon of folk music. 8)
