There has recently been a little interest in my CD collection, so I thought this might make a cool thread.

Here is a pic of my CD collection:

Image

Rack 1: Assorted Artists
Rack 2: Assorted Artists
Rack 3: Assorted Artists/Lynyrd Skynyrd/Janis Joplin/ Eric Clapton
Rack 4: Brian Setzer-Stray Cats/Gary Moore
Rack 5: The Beatles
Rack 6 Jimi Hendrix
Rack 7 and 8: Stevie Ray Vaughan
Small CD Shelf on top: Extra String sets/CD's from Magazines

I wonder what else Ceri will find interesting in my pic?

Looks great Chet. 8) Mine are kinda all over the place, mostly in boxes or those rubbermaid stackable bins.

I just sold about half of my CD's. With all of them on uploaded on my computer and mp3 player, no reason to keep the originals. I lack the proper space to have 1200. I sold almost all of the Beatles, knowing they are coming out with two releases on the 9th of Sept.

I'm an archivist... (I prefer that title than "pack rat"...) I still call my CD's "records". I was converting my LP's to MP3's, but I never liked the quality for the time and effort I put in. I will buy downloads, but only for old things that I have on vinyl, or newer artists that just have one song that I like. It is a pain to protect them. I usually create a new backup every month. But, to me, they don't hold the same value for me as my LP's. CD's too. I just miss holding the art work and reading the liner notes or lyric sheet without a microscope...

I also have multiples of things. Especially The Beatles. I have American Pressings and German Pressings, British Pressings. Same songs, but the art work is different. The most expensive record I ever bought was a copy of "Sie Liebt Dich" b/w "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand" by the Beatles on the Swan Label. I think I paid $10.00 for it. I now have the songs on the "Past Masters" Volume One CD. But, I won't sell it. It's the label that makes it cool.

I also have kept old Beatle 45's that are pretty much unplayable, but they are in the original picture sleeves. So, how could I get rid of that? I save everything. Some of the stuff is organized like Chet's. Some of it is in boxes. Some of it is in storage. I am also the keeper of the reel to reel recordings of my old garage band. Those are over 30 years old. I also own "The Beatles Complete", "A Hard Day's Night" and "Let It Be" on Laser Disc.

I now have a lot of old VHS tapes, and DVD's... The tapes are in storage now.

Needless to say, I have to protect them from my wife... She would like me to sell everything.

I have about 1500 CDs. I did have about 3000 vinyl albums but when we moved into this condo, I really didn't have space for them. A collector paid me a good price for them. Most were 'white label' promos from when I was in radio.

I didn't sell my blues LPs, nor my Hendrix collection, official or bootlegs.

The CD collection is dwindling. I mostly download my music from iTunes now. Last CD I bought was Iron Maiden Flight 666. I still got a sh*tload probably 300. That's a lot of money. Not counting downloads. Damn. I could have some nicer gear.

I have 300 vinyl records from my parents (mostly 70s and early 80s), but I only have a few CDs. Most of my music is on the computer, I have nearly 100 GB worth of it.

Mine are kind of all over the place as well. Currently my Ipod has 8675 songs. All but about 120 of those I have CD's for.

I have about 15,000 songs on my 80GB ZUNE http://www.zune.net/en-US/mp3players/default.htm plus videos.

You can't beat the Zune pass ($14.99/m) http://www.zune.net/en-us/software/zunepass/default.htm, unlimited downloads, and you get to keep 10 songs a month.
