okay cool thanks alot i thought music production was available at vandy oh well though MTSU would still be cool, but would getting a job in the music industry be tough with a good degree right out of college?

The economy in general isn't the greatest right now, and the music industry has never really been the biggest field with tons of open jobs like that. Finding a good job that you want in this field will always be hard, with or without a degree. Having a music degree certainly won't guarantee you any job, or even that you'll "beat out" someone with no degree at all, but a lot of experience on paper that you don't have.

Go because you want to, because you want the knowledge, and because it's something you've always wanted to do. Don't go thinking it will be your ticket to your dream music job, because there's a very slim chance of that degree alone doing that.

I have to agree with the above and would add some additional thoughts and advice if you care to hear it from this old fart:

Even though I am a firm believer in academia, it never hurts to learn a trade. I would presume that most people who have some kind of Liberal or Fine Arts Degree do not work in the general field of their choice, much less what they majored in, in college. Knowing a trade as collateral pretty much guarantees you your field and if you pick an in-demand one, you'll usually still be able to work at and with it, even in tough financial times.

It's great to be young and have dreams!

set two goals in life, one short term (next 5 years) and another long term goal...and follow your dreams.

My goals:

Short Term: Get a killer band together and experiment and find a good "sound"

Long Term: Write and record some tunes and hopefully put out a few records (Oddly I don't want a "worldwide hit" I'd rather be in a band that you would have to look around for instead of hearing it on a radio)

Somehow I knew someone was gonna say that XD

I can't blame you though I mean after all I'm just 13 (I'll be 14 on the 20th) I mean the level of experience of playing with a band will hopefully change a lot..............

Good luck with you goal! :P Just remember to keep having fun, and never lose hope. Think positively, do gloriously, and dream flamboyantly. 8)

In any field, the whole game is contacts, contacts, contacts ... especially these day. That's true of any field, not just music. My best friend has no problem getting jobs in a field where virtually everyone else has a Ph.D. and yet he has only a BA. But he also has a Roladex with just about every "hiring authorized" executive in his field.

So take every chance you can get to be involved in music production. There will be high school (maybe you have musicals?). But also look around the community ... many times charitable events have suond and/or music ... volunteer! And so on. Any time you get a chance to be in a production, take it. You'll soon know for sure if that's for you, you'll be having fund while doing it and be building your contact list.

And try not to get on anybody's bad side--at least not without a REAL GOOD reason.
