I just finished recording a song which is meant to be background music on the DVD that my band is doing. The DVD is just a live video recording of a show we did so that the band members to show their friends and family who weren't there. We're not selling it and it's no big deal. Anyway, I recorded an instrumental version of a song we play called Mighty to Save. It's a praise and worship band, not blues (bummer). But the bridge, the ending and the verses I made up. The only things original to the song are the intro and the chorus, and the chord progression on the verses. This is also the first time I've ever played keyboard on one of my songs, so I'm excited about that. I love what the B3 adds to any song. :) My Dad played bass. Unfortunately the drum track is too loud. I'm going to have to deal with that tomorrow.

The ending is my favorite part, so if you get bored fast forward it (it's not that long). The solo didn't come together as well as I wanted it too, but that was the best I could do for now. I might rerecord the whole solo.

It's the first track here,

Hey, there's lots of lovely stuff going on there! Well worth the listen. The outro is good -- you should be pleased. I don't think you need to worry about the solo (that's it over the outro, the one you're talking about?), it sounds good. The only thing that might make it seem lacking to you is that it doesn't seem to inhabit quite the same aural space as the other instruments... it sounds like it's quiet, but played so close to the listener's ear that it's kind of insistent and buzzing. I would think that a touch of reverb or something to help it sound less dry would be all it needs...

Anyway, sounding really good by any measure. Great work!

(Plus, nice tremolo... I'm a sucker for that at the moment...)

Cool song tgs! I was checking out the site and it looks like you can sign up as an artist but if you want the site to promote you have to sign up as a pro and pay a fee. Did you sign up as a pro and what was the fee?

Yeah, I was talking about the solo in the outro. A little reverb there sounds like it'd be a really good idea. I'm not sure if I can add that without recording it again and unfortunately I really couldn't play that solo again if my life depended on it. Lol

I didn't pay anything to sign up for purevolume and I'm definetly not pro. If I had a band that looked like it could go somewhere than I'd pay for the pro upgrade but for now I just use purevolume to post songs for my friends to hear.

I forgot to mention that I used both of my Strats on that song. For the most part the rhythm guitar is my Squier w/ Texas Specials and the leads were all done on my MIM Standard. It just has the standard Mexican pickups in there for now.

Gunslinger, Dude!! That was soo sweet I actually logged on just to let you know! I agree with all your (small) self critiques but that's just a bit of polishing - nothing really. You got some good stuff goin' on there!! Congrats! (Don'tcha love the B3?)

In the words of the Beaver, "Golly, that was swell!"

Tex, Good job... Dudette. We do Mighty to Save in our Praise band. Hillsong would be proud of you although I think you were playing the Laura Story version.. A friend of mine (a redhead too) just got back from Sidney where she attended a worship conference led by Hillsong (along with 20,000 others).

I really liked the bluesy rhythm you blended in toward the end. I know you can't help it... :) Keep it up...

Thanks. :) I actually got to attend a conference with Hillsong here in Houston last year. It was really cool.

Now that I've finally got my recording software up and running again (I ran out of memory on my computer which shut me down for a while), I think I'm going to try and record a few more things. I recorded a different arrangement of Third Stone From The Sun, but I don't think I'm ever going to let anyone hear it. I was just playing with the Uni-Vibe.

I'm actually working on some acoustic, delta blues style songs (one is an original) right now. Once I finish writing it I might set my microphone up and play it on my little brother's 3/4 size acoustic. It has a really cool, old timey sound. It wouldn't be anywhere near as fancy as the song I just did, it would just the acoustic guitar and maybe some drums (brushes). If it comes together I'll be sure and post it, but if it ends up being a disaster you won't hear me talk about it again.
