Fender / Gibson, to different to compair. The same goes for Ibanez or
Yamaha.
As for Ibanez : George Benson, John Scofield have there signature
guitars.
Yamaha SG2000 is also a classic.............but a Fender Strat or Tele
is my number one.

Do you mind explaining what's the good reason for the 12-string? I've played 6 for many years. Another friend has a 12-string acoustic. It's not a Jimmy Page double guitar it's the standard two strings for my one 12 string style. So, he let me try it out and so I went to about 8 and played a "c" blues scale high to low trying to bend. That don't work. He says, "it's not really for playing lead it's for strumming." Okay, pick the same progression. Awkward, really awkward for me, because there's all those extra strings getting in the way and I'm not the most swift guitar player around. This guy, he's a good guy, he strums and sings, lots of different strum patterns, uses a capo to match his voice, that kind of thing. He sounds good for his kind of music and he has fun with it. Seems like 6 would do for that just as well? So what's the point of the 12 strings over 6 because forget lead and then maybe extra volume? Sincere question I'm not always the first guy to figure everything out.

The 7 strings I don't get at all. Isn't it an extra base string?

There are plenty more examples but meh, this is one of my favourites. Yeah it could be played on a 6 string but the extra tones from the other strings (tuned up an octave I believe - correct me if I'm wrong) give it something extra.

It gives you different sounds and playing opportunities. It's by no means better than 6 strings nor visa versa.

Hear my train a 'comin' by Jimi Hendrix on a Acoustic 12-string guitar.
Watch the Video/DVD (a film about Jimi Hendrix) or maybe U-Tube ?

The 7 string gives you an extra bass note (low B I believe), and is generally used for creating a darker overall tune (although a 7 string guitar is also sometimes used in jazz). It also (in most cases) eliminates the need for down tuning

Haha, I never could get use to 12 strings either. It felt awkward to me. I wouldn't even have tried it, but it sounded so good being strummed. It's like your hearing 2 guitars at once. Picking is pretty much out of the question, or maybe it requires a whole other technique, that's what made me forget all about 12 strings and be happy with a 6 string.

They do sound good though, but their just not for me.

imho as a amature guitar theroy kinda guy i noticed that most extended rande guitars are ibanez.

if you just need to play 1 note at a time the n 2 strings (the e's) and 23 frets could do it.

from an artistic point of view some ibanez look really ok and others look like a strat with a buit in handel and a flower design fingerboard.

from a player point of view ibanez are used for distortion and heavy metal. strats can play anything. a guitarst in slipknot plays one and so did buddy holly and eric and jimi and the list goes on and on.

unrealeted question is johnson a second line ibanez? my freind thinks so.

p.s. imho squier makes better instraments then ibanez but everyone has their own guitar brand. for me and most of you it is fender for others gibson. my point is each has there strong points but fender has the same strong points and more than ibanez.

I think Ibanez needs to start making more appealing guitars before I look twice...

Ibanez has made some great guitars in the past but they're too much in
the shred machines now.
John Scofield and George Benson models and the Ibanez Artist are fine
guitars in my opinion.
They also make some nice acoustic guitars.

I have an Ibanez RG550 that my son is using to learn on.

It's a decent guitar.

In my opinion, it's main purpose is as a metal/shred guitar.

While I'm not a fan of the RG shred machines, the Ibanez Artcore hollowbodies are a decent guitar at a decent price.

This poll probably won't affect any Ibanez-lovers. I mean, it is the Fender forum.
