Still listening to internet radio. Now they are playing a blues program, which is a bit of departure of what I was listening to before that. My listening tastes are random as hell, sometimes. :P Then again, it probably all comes from the blues in the first place.

Same for me, Paul. Some of that randomness for me comes from a family (both sides) that appreciated all kinds of music. My much older mother-in-law in her 80s and 90s loved (mostly old school) blues, but would listen to anything. My dad in his 70s then discovered and liked Zappa.

Some comes from my necessity and pleasure working with a number one TV/AM/FM station in the 60s, later broadcasting into the 90s, and just a general love for music like the rest of us . . . well, most of us. Because I once caught The Met live on CBC radio while working at home on a Saturday, I was blown away by the regularly scheduled live performance and the audio that gave depth, and in stereo it was like being there. I stopped painting and took a break to chill, focus, and listen as the knowledgeable host explained the performance and story. Opera was just okay for me back then, and a few songs were in my collection of audiophile samples, but I got hooked and listened in on non familiar opera when it was good, and found it to be great if time was taken to give it a go. Works terrific with pasta and wine. Makes one a better house painter like Michelangelo too. Listening choice also depends on my mood which could change if I become over saturated with one genre for too long. Choral music that puts you to sleep or hurts the ears doesn’t get my attention (maybe it needs a little rap); but gospels, my historical prison and chain gang recordings, and singing monks do have something to offer along with other historical and rare recordings including rock and blues. This good stuff is from the soul, and it tells a story that continues to this day. Somewhere in most (if not all) rock from progressive rock to hip hop and everything before, in between, and after you’ll find influence from those who came earlier. Some have yet to discover that fact, believe it only began today or only in their lifetime, or they are simply oblivious. My guess is that a methodical Neanderthal percussionist or chimpanzee banging rocks or sticks started it, and so goes your BPM EDM club music. :P
Who knows? Maybe a monkey started the floss.

Listening to:
Jerry Garcia Band
9/1/1990
Shoreline Amphitheater
Mountain View, CA

Great great show at an emotional time in Garcia’s life. Brent Mydland, keyboardist for the Grateful Dead, had just recently passed away a few weeks prior to this show. Love the “Dear Prudence” and especially “Tangled Up In Blue” from this show. Cheers, Super B
