I’m listening to all kinds of oddities from my cassette collection (a lot of non commercial and commercial 70s, modern takes on the 20s, and Mel Blanc doing Daffy Duck on the opera stage singing in English with full symphony. Even some real chain gang Blues with sledge hammers pounding the beat. It’s not that I was against commercial tunes in those days, but commercial is and was available at the flick of a switch, so I often ventured to the other side for a lot of lesser played or found material back in the day. I’m glad I did. Today, not foreseeing the technology at the time of these initial recordings of mine, digital has presented much of these selections and more discoveries to the masses. I’m thrilled to hear them. Hearing them is all good for the creative juices. It took over a hundred years to make all of the recordings, many of which were lost (including trying to find some of mine), some never reached these or those shores, and so good luck finding it all on digital. That can’t happen.

So tonight I worked in my office, and I find that to be a good time to go through and prepare my collected music for editing or dubbing. This includes lost or incomplete listings or mismanaged tracks. Books preceded computers for reference. So computers became a great resource for details, hence some of the managing of known or unknown songs. Perhaps, the quality or levels were less than desirable or maybe there were dropouts, scratches, and so on my having used a multitude of media and resources to get that oddity or rarity.

It’s not all music either as jokes, some interviews, and experimental stuff was trendy back then. Answer and novelty songs were also collectable. So I slap a tape in, and I continue to add and update songs on the Excel list which I made for all of my music (well, most of it) with details on format, album or tape title, artist, year, quality, and need of repair, perhaps digitally. Meanwhile, I get a lot of other work done.

If I had a hundred years to look forward to, my list would be difficult to complete; but, maybe I will eventually, I think it’s called retirement. :P

Sounds interesting, FSB!

I'm listening to some acoustic tunes this morning.
