I’m listening to a program about scientific arguments regarding climate change (some call it Global warming). That’s a Pandora’s Box, I know; suffice to say I’ve taken thermal temperatures of the Pacific ocean and I’ve seen the habitat change with Great Whites following the food chain into places that were previously limited. I’m old enough to remember the Thames river pollution cleanup, and the Ozone argument having been corrected mostly by nature. I live where Polar bears are struggling, where acid rain, mercury, farm and mosquito chemicals get spread, where forest fire planes fly, where wind energy has not been popular once installed and once all the advantages versus the disadvantages have been added up. It’s where the Ice Age covered where I live and left puddles where I fish right next door to where I’ve seen walleye floating amongst foam traveling from a pulp and paper mill. The Cousteaus also floated the river at the request of Minamata diseased First Nations’ people.
I know man has been unkind to Mother Earth, but I don’t believe in many solutions that work on one hand and then present or continue with plastics and metals and electricity to be brief. That’s like hippy tree huggers (I love trees) with their rare exotic wood guitars and drums. That’s more acid, chemicals, oil, mining, mercury, land erosion, environmental change, and . . .

I certainly don’t have the answer. I know it sounds good to say, “Well, we have to do something”. I say, “That’s not the only answer. It’s incomplete.” Doing things better instead of different can be one solution. Recycling is another when it isn’t abused or fraud. Working towards a better not other technology is a better alternative. Everyone wants to take that bridge to the other side. It’s not the always best route to travel though, especially if you haven’t been to the other side. I could go on being from the generation that drank the water from the stream. Sometimes, less is more.
