I tuned in to Neil Sedaka’s satellite 50s program where he was talking about how he played piano for a lot of artists and several times for Bobby Darin. When the producer for Dream Lover said the studio version wasn’t working Darin turned to Sedaka and asked what he could do to improve it. Sedaka suggested to do the Calendar Girl approach and to take the song up an octave. The rest is history.
