Lawrence Welk was mostly known for what is called sweet music. I grew up with big band music listening to it, playing it, and televising it. My music savvy father taught me to never discount the musicianship of Lawrence’s band, especially when George Cates (former A&R Director for Coral Records and a several time top 40 chartbuster) LW’s music director could get the best from them IMHO.

As for guitar, they had that too. Not exactly The Ramrods top ten at #8 (UK), but this made the top 100 to #87 with Neil Levang the same year in 1961:



Moving on to 1962 I have to wonder what the LW musicians were thinking as these guys shared the stage with their #4 from the top 100 charted hit:
