Do you hear "Yanny" or "Laurel"?

This is strange, FSB. I clearly hear Laurel.

It would appear that you are in the majority, Marky. Laurel is thought to be the original name recorded. Tough to know how many hear what though.

I’m flippin’ in a good way. I see and understand the basics behind it, but all morning I heard ”Yanni” and no Laurel.

Just now I asked Mrs. FSB to listen together and try it. This time I heard ”Yanny” at first and suddenly “Laurel” throughout.

I didn’t reveal that to Mrs. FSB, and when I asked what she heard it was only “Laurel” - no Yanny at all.

Later we tried and I could only hear “Laurel” and no Yanny. From a distance Mrs. FSB could hear Yanny and Laurel but from a distance I still only heard Laurel.

As I write this . . . the News just played it and I heard Yanny while Mrs. FSB and the reporters heard Laurel.

Now that’s uncanny.

Briefly, we are listening to one identical track in sync over another; but, one of them has a pitch and EQ change.

This tricks the mind. Years ago in our TV control room we played a two track deck with two different conversations playing simultaneously and, for the most part, our female associates could only recall one conversation. Not so with most of the guys. We could recall both as science tells us is the expected proven difference between sexes. Exceptions are, well, - exceptions.

My guess is the Yanny video originated in Eastern Europe where mind games have a history . . . some good . . . some not so good. The originator(s) have yet to come forward.

Let’s hope there’s no virus (associated either by origin or by a third party). I’m sure that is being monitored so we can enjoy the fun for what it is.
