Yeah, 1965 was not all peace and love. For us it could be homesick or a little tension of the unknown, although bad communication was often squashed for our morale, and entertainment was encouraged.

But, for the most part, we were not in Vietnam like our brothers and sisters in your country which belonged to the South Easy Asia Treaty Organization. We shared feelings, rubbed shoulders, trained together, and constantly thought of their courage while we were on standby and kept vigilant with Canada involved behind the scenes with other non-treaty countries. (Australia and New Zealand were part of the treaty and war). I spent time in US Naval bases on both coasts during those years, and we often hit the town. Americans and Canadians together, and on this side of the border too. We might look to our left and see an American ship, they to their right and see us. Most of us were just kids who grew up fast.

There was always great music and it rocked, and gave us all hope for better times. :D
