The band has been going through this discussion for a while now. One problem we've been having is that a lot of people don't know how to spell or say HaleAmano. And really have a hard time remembering it.

We've had our name spelled HALEMANO- HALOMANO- HAILMANO-HALEOMANO, more times than not. It's pretty rare these days for any random venue to spell our name right on fliers.

The name is pronounced (ha-lay-ah-mon-o), and most people say (hail-ee-a-man-o) or (hail-mon-o) or (hail-ee-mon-o) even when we're being introduced by announcers at our bigger shows.

Some of the guys in the band are frustrated by it. It becomes a real battle to get people to remember our name, even 5-seconds after you tell them. "What is it again??" "How do you say that?" "can you spell that for me again?"

Some people in the band don't think it's a big deal, while others do think it's a big deal. There are a couple of guys who think it's too hard for an average person to say or remember because it looks like a Spanish word to them (even though it's Hawaiian). We even have a member of our band who is from Mexico, and he says that actually in Spanish "Haleamano" translates to "pull with your hand", which a term used to describe masturbation. (So obviously, he would like it changed.)

So there are people in the band who want to consider calling the band HOUSE OF THE SHARKS to make it easier for English speaking people to say, spell, and remember. And there are others who think the name would be too long, thus, just as hard to remember and don't like the idea.

I want to put the question to the Fender Lounge members. We're really looking for some honest feedback on this issue.

Which name would you prefer if you were in this band?

HaleAmano sounds pretty cool, but the idea of a house full of sharks sounds cooler IMHO <_<

Teh Nrt4 Expierence

Nrt4 Starship

Nrt4 and teh Heartbreakers

Nr t4 and teh backhearts

Both names sound cool but House of Sharks doesn't have that ring to it

House of Sharks is cool and has a nice ring to it.I dont care for the THE in it.As far as the other name I can read just fine but I did not pronounce it the proper way you say it as it is written.

Hello Shredd6,

Down on the border it'll be "Casa de Tiburons"

Might look like this.

Cheers.

Thanks for all of the responses. It really does help to get unbiased feedback on this subject. We're recording a full length CD next month. But which name to go by is becoming an issue. Not one that'll tear the band apart or anything. But something to consider.

I didn't think about it at first, but I do like HOUSE OF SHARKS without the word "the" in it better myself.

Thanks again for all the replies.

House of Sharks is slightly better, though not much. The first one is just too "much" for a band name. I don't care what it "means" or how special the name is, if nobody can remember your band's name, find it easily on a search or remember it, then it just goes against you.
