I love fish in general and read about them and watch everything I can.

Makos have a special shape to their scales that kind of cup water aginst the sharks body. When they move it is a water-to-water connection with very little friction. No one really knows how fast they can swim, but it may be around 60mph.

I was trolling for makos off SoCal with a guy and he was doing about 26 knots. The artificial bait was bouncing off the top of the water. I told the guy he was nuts and no shark would even see the bait. All of a sudden here comes a mako coming in FAST at a diagonal to the bait. He was barely getting wet and about 80% out of the water during the whole attack. He missed the bait, but it was impressive indeed.

Thanks for reminding me about shark week, pal. :)

He is referring to the dolphin fish not the mammal. A dolphin fish is also called mahi-mahi at the supermarket or on a menu. A male dolphin fish has a large forehead. Dolphin fish have incredibly bright colors of yellow, blue, and green that "light up" and get even brighter as they fight.
