When using a fuzz effect, is the amp supposed to be set for clean or dirty?

Usually you set the amp for clean. And set the fuzz' output level nearly equal to the off position.

That way, when you turn the amp off, you have a clean sound at your disposal. It's like have a two channel amp; one set for clean and one set for dirty.

But experiment!
