Perfomed Saturday evening at Five Towns College.

Killer Unit!! Excellent musicians all.

Some of the dynamics needed tweaking. George Cintron, front man/player/vocalist, is extremely accomplished, has a strong local following. He does great vocals but seems to prefer a 'metal' influenced arrpegiated/ overdrive heavy style which begs being eschewed in favor of a tad cleaner 'singing' type of tone, with respect to Clapton's work.

Have seen him with another unit and vocalist where his 'feel' was more appropriate. At times, his guitar failed to rise in the mix and often found unbalanced by the second which, in general, was excellent.

His issue may have been either the choice of equipment or EQ'ing. Example: They did "Pretending", in which that first guitar note should literally knock you down. It just wasn't there. In conversation he indicated that they intend to resolve that issue.

Donny Waller, second guitar/vocals has great blues/rock 'feel' and plays awesome slide. Great work on 'Layla.' They share the leads and work off each other well.

Dynamite drummer/vocals. Keys and bass equally skilled technically.

NY metropolitan area players should follow this band with interest and the opportunity to see them work. This was a first time outing for them as a unit, so they represented. I expect that, when all the bugs are finally dead......LOOK OUT!!

This is the kind of stuff I would love to do. 8)

Go to www.chroniclesband.com. Also find them on "FaceBook".

Doc

Not me, with us being a blues band, we do covers of classic blues songs, but we inject each song with our DNA. I've always been like that, and most all pro blues musicians I know do the same.

I have a friend who has a EC tribute band Rick 'Slowhand' Bailey http://home.earthlink.net/~baileyrick/, now he really sounds like EC.

Your point of view well taken and understood. Simply a matter of preference. One might do both. In fact. though true to the songs, there was some individual interpretation noted.

With respect to the out-take of mine you responded to, my intent was more to the 'feel' of the band in general....well accomplished, tight, and together as we understand the use of the terms. I know you well understand the exhilaration coming off that kind of performance.

As for Rick Bailey, know of him and quite agree. The photos on the link are representative of what I would call the "24 Nights"/"Journeyman" tour period in Clapton's 'look'. Clapton changes appearances as often as the finishes on his guitars.

However, the expressed philosophy of the band 'Chronicles' is to the music of Eric Clapton. There is no interest in creating a visual tribute to the artist which, in fact, has a plus, because it directs focus to the band as a whole and the truth to the music. This was a philosophy "Pink Floyd"
pursued. A desire for the band to remain almost anonymous with respect to personalities.

Doc.

Oh, ok, cool, yeah, that's another feature that people always talked about Primetime, it was how tight we were on stage. That comes from me making sure that they always watched me.

I learned to always watch the singer/lead person, IMO this makes sure that the band starts, and stops at the same time.

Clapton is currently 64. His whole life has been quite a jouney with some great highs and mighty lowdown lows.

I can't remember it now, but there used to be a website dedicated to tribute bands and the three most highly regarded were doing :

1. Clapton
2. Hendrix
3. SRV

If I can find the site, I'll see if these guys are listed. Not to get off the Clapton subject, but keeping with tribute bands, one of the best tribute bands I've ever seen is this one :

Shouldn't be too difficult. You can 'Google' these by category and come up with a host of listings. I found one for Fleetwood Mac that listed every participating band by state.

This is a great effort. Problem is, once one has internalized the music, as most of us do, the departures from the original are quite evident.

Doc you are a harsh critic .lol I listened to the three tracks they had up on there site and on Layla they did not miss a fill, thats a lot of time put in listening. But I know you were talking about there live show but I think they sounded great. You cant play the music any better then they did. One thing about Clapton who is one of my favorite artist ever is he gets lazy. Songs like White Room or Badge have such classic solos he could at least play the head of the solo but he just improvises, which kills certain songs because your waiting for those notes to kick it off and he goes somewhere else. On the concert for George he played While my guitar gently weeps note for note. Probably because Maca lit a fire under his $@!.My favorite playing of his is on the Layla album and I attest it to Duane playing and pushing him. Theres a great version of him and Beck doing Because we Ended as Lovers which was moronicly edited from the crossroads festival, and his playing though a totally different choice of notes than Beck is amazing. Again when he is pushed he shines.

<<<<<[quote="straycat113"]Doc you are a harsh critic .lol I listened to the three tracks they had up on there site and on Layla they did not miss a fill, thats a lot of time put in listening. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The three tracks on their site are certainly representative of the detailed work they have put into their undertaking. I have no issues with their capabilities whatsoever. They opened with two from Cream..."Sunshine'', and "White Room". Guitar, bass, and drums..Cintron playing a PRS McCarty (which I've seen him use before) in lieu of an LP, through what appeared to be Line 6 Flextone III in a chain with something else. He 'pseudo-woman tones" these two. drenched in overdrive, (which 'Woman Tone is not....it's an LP thru a Marshall on '20') but for those songs it worked. Then they go into the Strat based Clapton stuff as the rest of the band comes on stage, and Cintron's following is yelling for him to turn up the gain. For some reason it isn't happening and, now that I mention it, there was a similar circumstance last March when he was working with another backup band to a female vocalists. His following was yelling for more gain. And there he was almost exclusively using the PRS. In the meantime, his co-conspirator comes on stage with an Ibanez Artist Elite through a Laney stack, doing all the Greg Allman stuff and more and soaring through the mix. He carries all you hear in "Layla". So they intro into "Pretending"...the piano lines are right, the drum lines are right, and that guitar dies on the vine. Just for a little detail orientation, in the chorus of 'Pretending" there's a little guitar riff which is repeated through the chorus played by either Eric or Jerry Williams.I can hear it in my head sitting here writing, even sing it, but but is wasn't in there.

Through the entire first half I am waiting for this Strat to start cruising and it never happens but everytime that Ibanez speaks you say "I hear you knock'in." Which is why I say that when you present an offering such as theirs you have to expect that there will be people in the audience as accomplished as you are who have expectations, and pray that they will also be as accomplished as your are if their expectations are not fully realized and forgive you. The understanding of a true musician is reflected in that.

Which brings me to the story of the soprano who was greeted with curtain call after curtain call for encore after encore after the 12th of which she thanked the audience wholeheartedly and begged for their indulgence to leave the stage. A voice called out from high up in the cheap seats.....

"Ayy!! You gonna sing again and again.....until you sing it a-right!!"

It's my hope that, after my brief chat with Cintron, wearing my Forums T-shirt, by the way,(because I never go to any of these things without some representation of the fact that do know my a-- from my ----w in these matters), we will hear him the way he ought to be. As far as his 'heavy metal' tendencies, he's not far from the critique I've given Gary Moore on another thread. He needs to lose that for a more credible Clapton.

There certainly isn't any doubt in my mind that they can. I will make it my business to hear them again some time. I am on their mailing list, by the way. 8)

Doc what was his story for not turning up the gain. I dont understand if you said you could hear the crowd yelling for him to turn it up so could he . What did he say to you about it , and why would he want to get lost in the mix.

Towards the end of the second set he was getting out more. The conversation was brief but he did suggest that it would be better next time. It may be that his choice of gear was not up to the task or that the sound check on his rig was not satisfactory.

I'll look for them again the the future.

Doc

I've been in this position a few times as well. You do a sound check and everything "seems" okay, but then you need to swap out a pedal or even a cable and the soundboard guys are snoozing and when they realize it they just start pushing faders and dials.

The soundbytes on their page sound very good!

The thought occurred to me that evening that you likely would have appreciated their work. Cintron has a following from somewhere I don't know. People were definitelhy there to see him play both in March and two weeks ago.
