Are they worth collecting? I have one of Blind Willie Johnson that is great and another of T-Bone Walker which I thought was a bit of a let down. But I am posting this because I have seen ones of Albert King, Elmore James and Muddy Waters and I am unsure whether to buy them or not. Does anyone collect these CDs?

imo, it seems the person/organization putting the compilations together have a lot to do with how good the collection is.
i have a set from eclipse music called "blues legends - whole lotta blues"... the collection sucks.... i have another cd from martin scorsese called "martin scorsese presents jimi hendrix", a compilation of blues tracks from JH... some released, some unreleased... friggin' awsome!
a lot of stores have computers set up where you can sample the cd's they have in stock. might wat to browse before you buy.

if you're a blues fan... check this out. friend of mine turned me on to it.
sonny boy williamson doing nine below zero... yeow!!!

YouTube is definately one of the best things to ever happen to the preservation of music :D What I like about YouTube is that when I hear about a Blues player I have never heard before I can search on YouTube to see if I like their music.

There is nothing worse than buying a CD that you don't listen too, and I am very specific about which Blues music I enjoy listening too, even though allot of the music is great there are some artists that I don't enjoy. For example, I just recently bought BB Kings 80th Birthday special and I can't say much for the CD itself.

As much as i know BB King is a Blues legend, and his guitar/vocals is fantastic, I just do not enjoy the CD. I even have it advertised is the paper for sale but I think I might just place it under the "Free" section in the hope that it will go to someone who will enjoy it.

Thanks for the link, I thought it was good. I have been wanting to start listening to someone who plays the harmonica :D

I purchased that one about a week ago :D I really enjoy that CD too, it is the sort of music that makes me smile. Some great songs on there, I also like "Tupelo pt.1", it is a song that really tells a story.

I also like the part where he says "Let me here you tell them about it Albert" That was a classic!

With the "Martin Scorsesse Presents" thing I'd totally trust it. He sure does know his stuff. After all he directed the great rock film of all time THE LAST WALTZ not to mention his incredible Bob Dylan documentry "No Direction Home"

I got the Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues CDs of SRV and Clapton in the cheap section of Walmart for 3 bucks each. Both well worth it and much more.

Can't really help on the OP's question, but I can definitely recommend the Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues series.

How good it is depends on how much they recorded--since the idea of "Complete" is everything they recorded.

Some people recorded a lot of junk in addition to some great stuff.

But you are correct about the BWJ, I have that one, and I love it.

He had great passion in his playing and singing.

If I could play slide even a third as well as he did...

Yes, if you keep them in good shape. Most of mine are all scratched from learning the riffs that I heard (pre-tape and digital media era).
