Yesterday was Buddy's birthday, he turned 73yrs, the party will be Aug 3 at Legends http://www.buddyguys.com/. I already have a pass, but may not be able to make the celebration, due to work (with a wife & a mortgage, I gotta pay the bills).

I've played with Buddy & the late Junior Wells many times in the '80s. Buddy wouldn't hesitate to show me anything I asked him, and Junior was such a nice person. He treated everyone like he knew you forever. I really Junior being here on earth, but his essence will live on forever.

Try and make it. You don't get second chances with legends. It's only one day. I'm sure you can move things around and everybody will understand.

I've been to Legends many times, I was there in '89 when SRV showed up for Buddy's birthday. I just happened to be in Chicago when I was playing with Snapper Mitchum http://www.snappermitchum.com/, we just went down for the party. Snapper grew-up right next door to Buddy & Phil Guy. It was Phi who suggested that Snapper play bass guitar.

No one knew that SRV was coming up from Dallas, it was a complete surprise to everyone, including Buddy http://tela.sugarmegs.org/_asxtela/BuddyGuyStevieRayVaughn1989-07-30ChicagoIL.asx.

But I work in a research lab, and I have to give a talk Monday morning.

I know some of may doubt my stories, but I came across this page from Living Blues http://www.snappermitchum.com/living_blues.pdf in '86 where I'm mentioned and all the blues acts that came to Gilly's and the Canal Street Tavern.

I attended most all these shows with Snapper, and he would drag my butt on stage with these bluesmen!

I believe you thouston only because I hang out with a big blues fan and these people are genuine unlike the rock crowd I idolize. Blues players are regular people that just happened to become famous.

I hope one day to meet an EVH or Yngwie and get me out of this rut I'm in. It's hard to figure out which way to go from books. But I'm having fun anyway so it doesn't matter.

Take care,

Agreed, I met Alexis Korner back in the sixties and what a fantastic guy he was.
Best wishes Buddy. 8)

Happy Birthday to Buddy.

I've enjoyed his playing for many years--never got to see him live--so far, but I enjoy listening to him play.

Great feel, passion, and mood.
