Three festival nights (Bestfest): Motorhead, then Moby on one, The Charlatans (UK), then Carlos Santana on another, Manowar on the third.
Very eclectic, but very good also.

It's been a while since I been to a live show.

It was Vinni Smith's (Yes, The V-Pick Vinni) band with guest artist Gabriel Manzo of Malo.

Okay, a small review as promised.

I arrived at Notodden Blues Festival this morning, and after roughly 40 mins of waiting in brilliant weather to get in (someone had parked their car in the way of the ticket sale  ) I was ready for some good music. There were two other bands scheduled to play before Buddy, both of which I enjoyed, to a certain extent (Beth Hart did a more than decent performance). At about 4 pm. Buddy went on stage, to growing applause. For a 73 year old man (his birthday was this thursday, so congrats, Buddy) he is amazingly energetic on stage. He played a set of standards like, Hoochie Coochie Man, Mustang Sally and his recent Skin Deep. The band were also in great form, and they seemed to generally just have a great time on stage. Buddy played blues "so funky we could taste it", in his own words, playing one-handed, behind his back, with his teeth, his jacket and a drumstick, all the while with a huge smile on his face. Mid-way he walked into the crowd and jammed and sang for about ten minutes (a bold move, considering the anticipated high alcohol level amongst the Norwegians gathered). Buddy was also joined by stage by a young woman whose name escapes me atm with a great voice who sang Stormy Monday. Buddy also did his regular routine with telling stories about how blues has evolved and playing examples (highlights were Boom Boom and Strange Brew). Towards the end Buddy took out his wah-pedal and started throwing some sweet licks ending up in the epic riff from Hendrix's Voodoo Child (Slight Return). I kept thinking of how incredibly proud Jimi must have felt to hear his song played by his great hero, nearly forty years after its release. Voodoo Child went over to Sunshine of Your Love before Buddy went off the stage to a significantly greater applause than earlier.

It was mindblowing, the word "awesome" needs to be redefined :o

Hope you enjoyed the review

Glenn Kaiser doing a solo acoustic blues concert a couple of months ago--well not quite--he pulled out an electric for a few songs, and was joined on the last two by a guy on violin--very cool hearing him play some blues.

A great concert--and a real nice guy.

Not known for their guitar, but the last live show I saw was the 5th Dimension a few years ago. All of them great singers and put on a very good show. Some of the original members are no longer with the group, but they still sounded much the way they did in the 60s and 70s. Florence LaRue looked fabulous. It was hard to believe she is in her 60's. I was lucky enough to be able to talk with them after the show, very nice people.
Im planning on going to see 38 Special later this month.

Last night I saw the Progressive Nation 2009 tour in Columbia, MD. Scale the Summit, Big Elf, Queensryche, Zappa Plays Zappa, and Dream Theater in that order. Seven hours of great music. Zappa was the highlight for me as I am a huge Zappa fan, but all of the bands were great and I was introduced to some new music (for me) that I really enjoyed in Scale the Summit and Big Elf. A great night all around.

I've actually had a big few weeks for live music -

Wed before last was Rev. Horton Heat in Milwaukee, with the Nekromantics opening.

That Saturday I got to watch all the other students play at the Tent Sale gig (and I played as well but as was mentioned above that doesn't count).

Then Thursday night saw a bluegrass band from Stevens Point playing The Terrace at UW Madison.

This past Friday saw Social Distortion in Green Bay, less than a week after I'd played Ball and Chain myself. Opening acts were the Strangers and Civet, both young punk bands from California, one all guys and one all girls. Good bands, enthusiastic fans, terrible sound in the carpeted ballroom, but a very fun show.

Yesterday saw my guitar teacher's band do a great set at Brat Days in Sheboygan.

Very inspiring to see so many different types of music in so many different venues, but now I need to stay home for a little while and practice!

It's sad to say that i've never been to a real concert. I've only been to local gigs and festivals that didn't have any big names to mention. They were all good though.

The last concert and only concert I've been to was the Gary Burton Quartet that me, my mom, and my grandma all went to see. We all went for Pat Metheny, but the three other guys were superb, as well! Gary Burton played the vibraphones, Antonio Sanchez played the drums, and Steve Swallow played the bass. Excellent players, all of them. :D

June 21st, Sunday. Awesome night.
