Every now and then somebody shows up and says Fenders are made from plywood or some other lesser material. For future reference, here is a real plywood guitar. Birch plywood to be specific.

Wow, the Black/Red and Black/White are actually pretty nice looking (to me anyway).

Nothing wrong with laminates so long as they are quality materials. Eventually most wooden instruments are going to have to be constructed of laminates. And before you know it, wooden instrument will be replaced by synthetic materials altogether. Sad but inevitable IMHO.

Would you like to see someone gluing up body blanks that may be considered plywood. You will notice some exotic looking wood being used and these are not cheap . Roscoeguitars Watch the whole thing its interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jehdRpCpjng

The weight is usually a good tip that there might be a lot of glue and wood pieces of some kind in there.

Whats ugly about it have you ever seen the bodies on there basses? As they sand the edges down different lines show up along the curves and cuts of the body. Very high end craftsmanship as well as the woods being used. All hand made. Far from ugly and not cheap.

I'm not a laminate hater per se. But I think that SG looks gaudy. It looks a like a salt and pepper grinder set I saw at a kitchen store. I didn't buy the grinders, obviously.

I figure this way fender MIM's are 5 to7 pieces of wood glued together to make a body then some even have a veneer top. Not called a plywood but still a laminated board.

just when i thought Gibson had totally gone crazy with the Robot Guitar...they go and make this thing. i seriously think they're tripping on very bad acid. AND THEN, to ice the cake, they price it at $2,000.

gotta get me some of that Gibson Mary Jane

Never heard anyone say any Fender's are plywood but the MIM's are made of 5 to 7 pieces of wood glued together like I said on the previous post that is considerd edge laminated boards when you make a board by gluing a number of boards edge to edge to make one.
