Hey guys,

Alright, so Dad just put the A.C. in my room, and all of my guitars are in there. Will the "climate change" be too much for the guitars, or do you think they'll be okay?

Thanks for any help with this. 8)

I'd be interested in this answer. The room I play and store my guitars in has an AC.

I'm no HVAC guy, but I think as long as the change is gradual, as it will probably be with an AC, as it will take time to cool the room down entirely, things will be okay...Its not like you are putting them in a walk in freezer or anything...I mean you may have to re-tune them a bit later, but I don't see anything major happening, but thats just my opinion...

I always go by this: If you are comfortable, your guitars will be comfortable.

Drastic sudden changes in temp will effect the guitar and it's setup.

I often go from a warm house to outside, where it's snowing, when transporting my guitars. When I go from one extreme to another......I just leave it inside the case for a while, until I think the guitar has slowly adjusted.

The only thing I can add to the existing posts is to watch humidity. A/C removes water from the air which normally shouldn't be a problem. However, I've been in buildings where constant A/C has resulted in some pretty dry air. Cold, dry air isn't necessarily the best for guitars so under extreme use, you may need to add some moisture back.

You're only just now turning on the A/C? Mine has been pumping full blast since late March/early April.

When I take my guitars to a gig in the summer they go from an 80 degree house to a 100 degree outside, to an even hotter car that eventually cools off to about 80 again and then to however hot or cold the place the gig is at is. Sometimes it's outdoors.
My guitars have survived that way for years, so I think yours ought to be fine. :)

I don't get so concearned with my solid body guitars, its the acoustics I worry about. They are always in their cases with humidifiers making sure the moisture is consistant, especially in the winter. I find in the summer here in NJ, there is more than enough moisture in the air. So, even with the air on or off it isn't too bad. I have found that sometimes in the winter, I will have to adjust a neck every so often. I have also noticed that I will have to re-tune every guitar after I travel to a gig. That is usually how it is for everyone. When I do travel, the guitar is the last thing in the turned on car and the first thing I take out.

You'll know if your guitars get, "fret spout" in the middle of August!

Seriously, as you know, varying temperatures will affect each of them to varying degrees. If you see the effects being too radical on one or some, you might have to put the more easily susceptible one(s) somewhere else or, and I wouldn't consider this an option for one second, forget about the AC.

I'd be concerend about the way air con sucks moisture from the air. Humidity is something we dont have to bother with in the uk and my air con only gets used 4 or 5 days a year (arctic dog). I definately notice a dryness in the air with the air con on.

As a side question...my hot water heater exploded-ish  and we had a heater running for 2 weeks to dry everything in the basement out. My guitars are on the second floor-

I haven't noticed anything wrong but could this have hurt them at all not being in the affected area?

If they haven't done anything weird already, I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm no expert...
