They made alot of money though.

Lots of people think of that, terrible song, as bad as most of their radio hits I.E. Heaven's on Fire, Lick it Up, etc.

Lots of money.

Greatest.... song.....EVER!

I once heard that Kiss would use black MIM Strats with rosewood boards for a song or two and then destroy them as part of their act.... This was a bit over 10 years ago though and I never saw it myself or even had the desire to so it is just a story right now.

I'm pretty sure that's just a story that someone made up. Where was Paul Stanley when that video was made? It would've been interesting to have seen him with a Fender also, but from what I've read, he's endorsing his own Washburn model now.

Yeah, Paul is endorsing Washburns now, his artist model. On the date this was filmed he was on some junket promoting his art/paintings. I'm not much of a fan of those.

Never really been Fenders in their arsenal of guitars. There was a time when Gibson gave them Marauder guitars which Paul only used as the "smashers" at the end of the show. Rumor had it when Gibson found out never played them they almost pulled their endorsement deal with KISS which would affect Frehley and his Les Pauls that he actually played.

I understand that alot of bands use a huge array of different equipment and different brands to fit thier tonal needs. With the money that KISS has made over the years they are all probably playing customs of some sort.

As far as I'm concerned , when Ace and Peter left the group for the second time, they stopped being Kiss.

You're not alone in that opinion, I don't happen to share it.

-- Kiss actually wrote alot of pretty darn good songs (admittedly along with a certain amount of not-so-good songs). Gene Simmons has a great rock-n-roll voice (unlike Paul Stanley, who sounds like nails on a blackboard to me...).
-- I agree with WI KissFan. Good riddens that Ace and Peter are gone. Ace is a medicore (at best) lead guitar player, and Peter Criss (at least in recent years) is so lifeless. Besides ... when wearing the same makeup, who could even tell they were replaced ... except for the fact the musicianship just got 10-fold better?

zod, thanks, that vid was great and old and the first artist I thought of was Prince, the evolution of the revolution!

Considering the last great album they released was Dynasty 30 years ago the musicianship seems to have gotten worse I mean how can you explain Vinnie Vincent. My guess he got the spot because nobody else wanted to audition. Everything else after that is hit or miss (for the most part miss)

The reason their marketing is so great is because Gene would sell his own grandmother if he knew he'd make a buck off her.

And impossable to start a thread about Kiss (no matter the context) and not expect people to trash them.

Kissfan you have to admit and you did that you have been down this road many times before with Kiss either people are going to love em or hate em. I know all you did was ask a simple question, all I can say is that back in the 70s I sat like the teen I was and enjoyed two of the best rock concerts I have ever seen. There was nothing like em. They were the greatest show on earth, and those memories hold up till today. This is basicly before the real corny and bad songs took over-Black Diamond-100,000 years-Cold Gin-Deuce-Strutter,Let Me Go R&R and Rock and Roll all Night and Party Every Day still hold up and Kiss Alive is still a kick $@! album. The problem with Kiss with me is they regressed as I progressed and eventually stopped listening. But I would be a phony and a fraud if I did not say I was not a huge fan and in no way am I ashamed of it, and for those who never saw them you missed a sight to behold with some $@! kicken Rock. And guys who did not like the music from the start will admit they put on one of the best rock shows ever. I also think they got some respect from there unplugged show which was one of the best in that series and displayed a real tight outfit.Plus Ace made a lot of guys and future great players want to pick up a guitar and sure as hell taught you how to play a triplet.lol They were what they are and that is a lot of fun.

kissfan:

I really liked older KISS stuff. Great straight ahead rock and roll.

But if you think of Kiss and "their LPs'" you can't have been paying very close attention. While certainly Ace is known for his pyrotechnic 3 pickup LP, Paul has his own line of Washburns, but early on he played Ibanez Iceman's
most notably the one covered with broken mirror pieces.
