my band and i play a song i wrote almost 15 years ago...its a catchy, short little punk song....very easy to play. the thing is its my song, my lyrics, aranged by me , melody by me...i came up with a small solo which is okay, but that fact that its only 4 chords and only about 2.5 minutes makes it difficult for me to come up with something bada$$ for a better solo. the other downside is that i dont have much time to practice with these guys who endd up morphing my song into something different everysingle time we play it. the other dissapointing side of it is that the one of my other partners is a better guitarist who comes up with better stuff than i do, but im tired of being that back up guy....and want my OWN sound for once..... any comments?

About the changing of the song - most musicians that aren't pro's (and some that are) can't help but put their own spin on things and "can't" play it any other way. Most people will interpret your music as they hear it in their heads. That is, actually, the point of being in a "band" though, and is pretty common.

If you want it kept the same as you have it in your head, you have to let them know. Record a perfect version and let them know that the song is straying from the vision you had. Keep in mind though, that changes and updating here and there is a good thing. If you're THAT picky about your stuff, don't let them play it.

If you don't like what the other guitar player is doing, then you need to get up to their level and be a better guitar player yourself. Simple.
