I was wondering, does anybody on here have experience with some of the coricidin pill glass slide replications out there?
Had a small pill jar but accidentally dropped it, and have since, not been able to find a slide with a similar tone and feel. The dunlop pyrex slides are a bit too heavy and muddy for me, I'm looking for real glass. Preferably a pill jar, as I've kind of grown used to the feeling of the tight fit, plenty of 'action' for vibratos and the closed off end, plus, it's easier to stop toilet paper or gaze in there to suck up some sweat while playing

Can someone name a brand with international shipping that sells pill jar slides, in the standard coricidin size, not made of pyrex?
How dose a V-slide compare in sound characteristics to a standard pyrex glass slide?

Try Blue Moon, they're in the UK http://www.bluemoonbottleneck.co.uk/index.htm.

I've been using Mudslide ceramic slides. It has a tone that's a cross between glass and metal. The inside is porous and wicks the sweat away from you finger. Like thouston said BlueMoon Bottlenecks are really nice too.

I have been using the Planet Waves slide for some time now:

It's not a great slide but for 100kr it's good.

The only problem I have with pill bottles is my finger sweats. I'm sure you could demo one at GC or Sam Ash. I'd bring my own guitar. I have tons of slides. I cut a lot of my own from different bottles, tubing or whatever else might work. I made one out of brass stock on a lathe where I used to work. Sounds pretty good on my resonator.

They all sound a little different. It's tough to loose a favorite but fun to find a new one.

That's what Muddy Waters used to do, he would buy tubing from Sears and hand cut them to length, file them and play 'em.

I have a couple of corricidin bottle replicas. I do not remember the name of them, but I did get them off of eBay. Make sure you get the seemless one to get the true corricidin bottle tone.

I also have a V-Pick slide and like it much better than any of the other glass slides I have.

I have one of the dunlop "blues bottle" that supposedly is a replica of the coricidin bottle. Basically its a regular, thin glass slide. Like others have said, it gets pretty damp and moist in there after a while, so I prefer the open topped slides, who are also heavier. I use it occasionally though 8)

Let me know if you want to know something else.

Hve you thought of asking a glass cutter to make one out of a bottle? A guitar shop in Oslo gets slides made from wine bottles from the neighbour who works with glass. Might be to heavy for your taste, but think about it..

I have made a few bottlenecks myself, but I consider them a bit too heavy, medicine boittles are a perfect fit for me as they seem to keep tone though the glass is much thinner
I'll just hit ebay and get a handful of pill bottles, if that gets too expensive I'm gonna ask a couple of girls I know that just got into medicational studies to look out for some old bottles:)

If a closed end bottle gets too hot and moist, just put some gaze or toilet paper in there, that used to work for me

I find some pretty old glass bottles from time to time in my yard poking through the dirt. I've always thought some would have just the size to make a nice slide. I wonder if cutting a bottle neck could be done at home...

The one I bought cost 150kr, which is sort of expensive for a slide, but it was cool enough. I left it in Oslo though. My only slide atm is a regular dunlop medium pyrex slide, which works just fine with me. =)

It can be made at home, just go to youtube and check some videos on the subject! Theres a lot of different ways to do it, with the rule of thumb being that it takes a hell lot of tries to get a clean cut. I use a glass-cutter to make a cut all the way around the neck, then tie a piece of strings soaked in some sort of flamable liquid, set it on fire, let it burn, then cool it off in bucket of water, and gently tap the bottle till the neck brakes off. But it's not really a reliable method. works about 1 out of 20 tries for me  And remember to use protection for your hands and eyes!
