Hi folks!
I was using guitar tracks II with an ART USB interface. It worked ok but I picked up a Yamaha MD-8 8 track mini disc recorder, and it sounds so much better than my computer rig. My band is all acoustic and it really dose a great job.

Great forum! I just found it today.

I've been using Logic Express on a Mac. It's the best thing I've found in the price range. It falls short of Logic (full version) but most of the important stuff is there. It's got great dynamic controls. I love the submixing tracks.

Lately, I've been trying to use the GNX4. I was told that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread but I haven't found much use for it yet. If I want a good selection of effects my CyberTwin beats anything I've ever used. As far as recording goes, I tried using the GNX4 as an input device for the Mac. It seems to work okay but the M-audio USB is just as good. The Cyber has digital out. This means that degradation of the original signal stops once it leaves the amp. (unless you change the rate) It's a great recording amp.

Has anyone else found use for the GNX4?

I record with my Cyber-Twin, but I use the XLR-Out. The XLR-out is loaded, this means it mimics a mic'd speaker. I plug a 1/4 plug into the headphone jack, this shuts off the speaker.

I also roll off the high EQ in the recorder to under 5hz, this gives a natural sound, since most guitar cabinets don't go above that range.

On another forum, some of the musicians upload backing tracks, so that one can solo over. Here is the link http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=471052 to mine, most were recorded with my CT, and COSM guitar effects in the BR-1600.

One track 'Children of War ', I play all the parts. One guy had a 'outline' and I recorded the whole song over again.

I hadn't heard that the XLR out was "loaded". Is this a selectable option? or is it just loaded full-time?

Actually 'loaded' isn't really correct the XLR jacks are impedance balanced for output to sound reinforcement and recording equipment. Use the button to select stereo or dual mono signal. These outputs are frequency compensated to simulate the sound of a miked speaker. No, this option can't be turned off.

This is really useful in small venues. I ran a line from my CT XLR to the our powered monitor, with some of the signal thru the monitors. This allows my drummer to hear, without being too loud. I always have the soundman use the XLR at large venues as well. All the soundpeople like working with us because we manage our stage volume very well.

But this works really well for recording in a DAW, like my BR-1600. I can mute the speakers and have great recording tone without having to worry about volume.

The Cyber-Deluxe has, otoh, a speaker simulated stereo output. It's the one I used when I recorded some bars of the Hendrix " All along the watchtower" tone. The Cyber-Deluxe was outputed directly in a Tascam 788 using its stereo output.

God knows how I miss that amp. It was particulary good for direct recordings and its effects are simply outstanding. Not the best modeler for a more heavy type of guitar distortion (the VOX Tonelab or AD30VT is the tool for that) but for a slightly, on the edge, overdriven tweed tone, it was simply irrestible. Ok, maybe a bit still digital sounding, but very very sweet for sure!

Here's the clip: An american series strat (stock pups), a cyber-deluxe and a Tascam 788:

I record at home. I don't have any decent equipment, I just use my Dell Latitude D600 which has a built-in mic. I use Audacity to record. I hope to get some decent equipment soon.

Check out my stuff at my MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/jmconway) or my Guitar Center King of the Blues page (http://www.gckingoftheblues.com/profile/jmconway).

I use a TASCAM 414 Portastudio/Analog 4 Track Recorder for my guitar/bass work... and an ancient Alesis Drum Machine. I also use a Zoom Pedal, a BOSS Distortion Pedal, and a Behringer Virtualizer Effects Processor. The set up is great... just that I can't post my songs to internet for anyone to hear.

If anyone knows a secret about getting analog recording onto a CD or computer, I'd like to know it. I have several songs that I'd like to get out there for listeners.

And Hey thouston... I like your sound!

Wow, thanks for your kind words. All those songs are creative exercise for me, and they do make me play different riffs than I would usually play.

Hi, I have been doing home recordings for about a year. I have a Yamaha AW1600 recorder. For now I use either a BOSS DR3 or Casio WK-3500 for the drums. The drums are my weakest contribution which I need to focus on to improve. I use a LINE6 PODXT Live to run my guitars through. I always mic my Fender GC acoustic direct to the recorder with a AKG perception 100.

You can hear 4 of the songs at ( www.myspace.com/brianlucasblues ) it's not really blues but more of an atmospheric style with some bluesy overtones.

If there are any myspacers on here please send me a friend invite. I like networking with other guitarists and discussing gear.
Thanks,

I used a BR-864 for this funky instrumental. I used the sims and presets and no amps. 8)

I've only used the Boss BR units. My friend, Tony Houston can attest at how good these are.

First you must consider how you want to record:

Are you only going to record yourself?

Will you want to record a band?

Is your present computer powerful enough to record with, if so, are you computer competent?

Do you want to spend time learning to record, than recording?
