Looking for recommendation on small mixer, something I know very little about.
Just need to input a couple of mic's and two or three guitars and output a stereo signal to a 4track.

Seeing a lot of inexpensive behringer mixers at the shops, but having bought a behringer product ( an ultimate chorus pedal ) before I have my doubts on their ability to do the job.

I use a Yamaha for home recordings and it works well for that application.

Thanks!
That Yamaha looks interesting, I'll have to drive out and look at some shops for it

Among all the behringers ~ 130$, the local L&M shop has Alesis 220$, Soundcraft 375$, and Mackie 220$ and some "Dangerous Music" units which are right out of the ball park for home use :)

GAS hit so I braved the weekend crowds and went music store hopping, found one with the Yamaha's and picked up a MG82cx mixer. It was listed at 199$cdn.
Drew a 10% off sticker price eye-ball in their Halloween sale, so that was not bad either :D

Whoot, now I just need to learn to use it :)

Sigh now I think I need at least another mic for an amp, and one for a harmonica.
Have visions dancing in my head of making the music shop rounds once again in the next few weekends when we head out to an IMAX theater to try to see Scrooge or 2012

I only used The BR Rhythm Editor a couple of times. I find it faster just to use the BR in Arrange Mode for drums.

I've been recording with Reaper & DrumCore quite a lot. I really find that any drum beat pattern can provide me with a creative ideal, this happened with a 'experimental' recording.

For this track, I actually started with my P-Bass bussed thru a fretted synth VST plug-in, as always with me, I did already have a DrumCore drum groove selected.

I used Jeff Anthony's 'Tekno' groove and buss it thru three Cakewalk DX plug-ins, Pitch Shifter, Compressor Expander and Reverb.

I used two of the Prime Loops synth loops, on those I changed the pitch & tempo.

I couldn't create a patch for my guitar track that I liked in Reaper, so I 'Rendered' (bounced) the four tracks , bass, drums & two loops as a two track stereo track. I imported the stereo track into my BR-600 for more recording.

I couldn't find/tweak any FX in the BR that I liked, and since I had my Cyber-Twin already out, I used it.

I recorded four guitar tracks using the CT presets (D/I'd), all this after I had taken a spoonful of codeine for this cough....so I named this tune..... Codeine Head http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8283062

Yes, 'The Everything Guide to Digital Home Recording: Tips, tools, and techniques for studio sound at home' http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Guide-Digital-Home-Recording/dp/1605501646/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1257119082&sr=8-1.

This book is great for learning about recording terms and equipment, but really the best way is to record. With any any recording software/device, I always record a simple 12 bar blues, just to get the feel of of DAW.

I did go ahead and buy a M-Audio Axiom 25 25 Key USB MIDI Controller http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Axiom%2025%2025%20Key%20USB%20MIDI%20Controller_-1_10052_10002_-49997349 based on info in the book.

I had gotten a $50 off email coupon on anything over $150, the Axiom was $179, so I ended up paying $129 for it. I can use it with Reaper as a MIDI keyboard, and DAW controller.

Thanks for that home recording title recommendation, timely for me :!: :)
Got to wait for it though.
Tried to order it and amazon says it won't be available in Canada till the end of November.
Guess the transport dog sleds are slow this time of year.

I've got a Dokorder 8400 4-track reel-to-reel.....used it for years---then a Tascam 8-track cassette recorder, now, I use PC-based Cakewalk...

There's no longer any need to go "downtown" to a recording studio....I don't think there are any left, except for "rappers" who have no talent for music and no smarts for recording processes.....most young and not so young true musicians can get a home system that rivals anything Record Plant ever produced...

It was just recently published.

The TweakHeadz Lab site is an excellent recording resource site http://tweakheadz.com/index.html.
