Hi friends!

Been doing a recording over Mike's backtrack a couple of posts ago:

Here it is: Oakland Soul

Mike's track really stands for it self, so for the first minute I didn't mess with it much, just the vocals and two (or three?) bars of guitar licks. Then it break loose with some rhythm guitars and solos.

/G

Wow, what a great job!

I was watching a disco documentary the other night and came up with a riff, so I decided to expand it into a backing track 'Disco Thong' http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7923660, key of 'E'.

My first band played Funkadelic style songs, but than disco hit. A bass player I knew, had a uncle that was in a band that fired him, except the uncle booked the shows. We started playing with him.

I add two more guitar tracks to Disco Thong with a new title Disco Guitar
http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7943813 because I was having problems with SoundClick's upload.

Sam Ash has Drum Core Ver 2 on closeout for $79.99 http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_KitCore%20Deluxe%20Drum%20Virtual%20Instrument_-1_10052_10002_-49959226_cmCategorySA400020.

I've been looking for drums to use with Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/ that was easy to arrange with loops, and DrumCore KitCore Deluxe Drum Virtual Instrument is really easy, all you do is 'drop & drag' the drum loops into the software.

The software comes on two DVDs, with a bonus disc TempestaPack II, install took about 30mins! I'm working up a test track and will upload later.

Drum Core is owned by Submersible Music
http://submersiblemusic.com/ you can hear demos on their site.

First, I must apologize for the Sam Ash post, that software is KitCore, not DrumCore. KitCore is for creating MIDI drums, DrumCore uses audio drum loops.

Last night I tried out DrumCore with Reaper, it was really easy to compose a drum track using DrumCore. All you do is drag & drop the drum audio loop into a track.

I started as I always do, I selected a main drum pattern, and expanded the two measure loop to 121 measures (about 4 min). Than I recorded a rhythm guitar using a great free VST plug-in guitar amp model from Studio Devil http://www.studiodevil.com/home/.

For the bass track, I used another free VST plug-in the BIG 1.01 Bass amp Simulator http://www.acmebargig.com/big/

Here's the track, played in 'E'

I recorded a lead track, and also tweaked the fills, SRV-RIP http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8034841.

I still wasn't happy with the mix, my PC really isn't setup for recording, I need to connect my Samson RESOLV 40a monitors http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1811 and use them.

What I did was render (export) the rhythm guitar, and drums tracks from Reaper, and import the tracks to my BR-600, but I first had to convert the drums & guitar sample rates to 16bit, 44.1hz for the BR-600.

I also recorded another bass line using one of BR-600's COSM bass amp sims, also the new lead guitar track using another COSM amp sim.

Here is the link to the new version http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8038096.

ZOOM has a new recorder, the R16 - Recorder | Interface | Controller http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=2009&brandID=4.

One con for me is that it doesn't have drums, just a metronome.

I had a strange thing happen with DrumCore & Reaper. If you read my first post, DrumCore has a audio loop, as well as MIDI drum option. I use the audio drum loop, just by drag & dropping the drum loop into Reaper.

Image

Today, Reaper was going 'offline' whenever I tried to edit/insert a drum track. After checking my setting, and RTFM, I saw that under 'Preferences', 'Media settings, that 'set media offline, when not active' box was checked.

I did try 'Rewire', and this may have changed the setting.

After I cleared the box, I was able to edit a drum track. So check your settings if a feature in Reaper or any DAW isn't working.

I composed a BT (I think) using some of the Prime Loops. I used Lee Combs Tech Funk', 90's Acid, & Groove 4 Distorted Bass.

I arranged the drums using DrumCore with DJ Syze-Up/Ned Douglas with DJ X Kit, temp = 120bpm.

I think the key = C# http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8144461.

I also recorded a guitar track Groove with Guitar http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8145586.

I just found out Sony has issued an upgrade to Sound Forge 9 called Sound Forge Pro 10. I'm not seeing a lot of new features that want to make me shell out the considerable cost for v10 and there is no comparison with the previous product like Sony usually provides.

Anybody out there using Sound Forge for audio editing?
