Wow, another great track, but the B3 was a little busy, but nevertheless I had fun. Here's mine "Shuffin' MF'r" http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7894293.

That BR-1600CD is an interesting unit. My recording has been PC-based for almost 5 years now, but these recorders have come a long way since my TASCAM Pocketstudio 5. Mastering tools, vocal tools, looping, FX, amp modeling, drum & bass tracks, compressors, USB connectivity, and you can burn CDs, too. Very impressive.

I used my son's Macbook and Garageband for loops on this and then added some funky chords :

I tell you it is a great, and easy to use 16 track recorder. You can only record 8 tracks simultaneously, this is due to the size of the recorder, but play back 16 tracks.

We brought one to record our second CD, the only thing was now was that one member kept wanting to re-do his take. When we recorded the first CD in a studio, most all the songs were one take only.

Also, somebody has to be the recording engineer, and the producer, that person is me. But, I like recording, and I have a file cabinet filled with recording tips.

With recording the band, I had four mics on the drums (two overheads, snare & kick), scratch vocals, rhythm guitar, bass and keyboard. After recording those instruments, I Eq'd the drums (if needed) and bounced the drums to a pair of stereo tracks. This way I could control the drum volume with one fader.

Than I would record another vocal, and lead guitar, but after the keyboard player had to quit, I went ahead and wiped his tracks. I'll send the tracks to my brother and he'll record the keyboard parts.

If you're not wanting to record a band and want a CD burner, than the BR-900 http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=718&ParentId=110 will work. It even has a drum arranger, the one feature I don't like about PC recording is having to buy a drum loop software, and than drop in the loops.

The BR series drums are broken down into sections Intro, Verse-1, Fill-1, Verse-2, Fill-2 and End. I chose a Verse (which would be the main drum pattern of the song), than after recording, I go back and 'insert' fills. It's really that easy.

Plus the BR recorder have great guitar & vocal FX IMO, and they all are tweak-able and can be saved. And if you don't like any of the FX, than plug a mic and record your amp.

Miami Mike posted a track that he created using loops, the BR recorder will also Import loops.

It all boils down to what one prefers, some like PC, some like a stand-along, both work.

I don't know about this setup, first it runs on Linux, so you better be computer knowledgeable, and it DOESN'T come with a audio interface, there is a LIST of interfaces that should work, if the drivers are available.

The reviews seem decent on it. Audacity has a new release, I'd check what version is on the netbook.

Tony, dem changes *are* kind of tricky with all the rests, but funky take for sure...sounds like Tower of Power. 8)

As Mike pointed out, the reviews seem good. While I've been doing computer-based recording for years, I am really unfamiliar with most of the applications listed, though, I plan to check out Hydrogen. Also, I've been a DOS/Windows guy from Day 1 so I'm unfamiliar with the Linux OS. I wish the specs were listed more fully. MF offers upgrades in RAM and the hard drive, but I can't find any info on the processor. Still it might be a good place to start -- it comes with LOTS of tools.

It has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Atom.
Indamixx does have a website http://www.indamixx.com/.

Hi friends!

Been doing a recording over Mike's backtrack a couple of posts ago:

Here it is: Oakland Soul

Mike's track really stands for it self, so for the first minute I didn't mess with it much, just the vocals and two (or three?) bars of guitar licks. Then it break loose with some rhythm guitars and solos.
