This is a great unit and even greater price for anyone starting out and wants to be able to record with your computer :

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GuitarLink/

Also, the (free) Audacity software download has just
released version 1.3.8 with the following :

* VST Effects now display in
GUI mode by default

* Updated Nyquist implementation

* Improvements to Equalization,
Noise Removal, Truncate Silence,
Click Track and effects chains

* Improved Plot Spectrum analysis
and new preferences for
Spectrograms

* Record more than 16 channels
(hardware/drivers permitting)

* New "Mixer Board" view with
per-track VU meters

* AMR NB export support via the
optional FFmpeg library
(http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... tallffmpeg)

* 32-bit float data over 0 dB
handled without clipping

* Draft Manual/Quick Help included
in Windows and Mac installers

* Faster waveform drawing and better
response in multi-track projects

* Various bug fixes, stability and
accessibility improvements

See New in Audacity 1.3.8 (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/downloa ... -a#details) for more on the latest features and fixes.

The ZOOM engineers have come up with another recorder/interface/controller the R6 http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=2009&brandID=4.

It is a 16 track recorder that will record 8-track simultaneously recording to a SD card. Meaning, you can record to the R6, connect to a computer via USB and use as controller for most DAW software. It comes bundled with Cubase LE 4.

Even though it doesn't have a hard drive, you can plug a flash drive or external hard drive to store/backup your songs.

The one con is that the R16 doesn't have V-Track (I don't think, I'll know when they post the manual).

The R16 is an interesting device. Recently, I had heard about a new mixer complete with real faders that will let you mix using your DAW software. Has anyone heard of this? And how do you get the hardware to recognize your software? Inquiring minds want to know!

The R16 will let mix with via it's faders. This concept isn't new with ZOOM recorders, both the ZOOM HD8CD http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1918&brandID=4, and HD16CD http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1919&brandID=4 have this option.

They connect to a computer either by USB or MIDI, than there just a couple software command steps you have to perform.

My BOSS Br-600 doesn't have MIDI because of it's small size, I just record & mix in it. I use my computer to transfer songs from the BR-600 either by USB or free BR Wave Converter software (with a card reader), and than I use Audacity to covert the songs from Wav format to upload to Soundclick, if needed.

Has anyone ever used their bathroom as a recording booth? Well I just did :!:

We usually record at our drummer's home down in his huge second floor area. But he's out of the country for a month, and I didn't want to wait for him to get so that I could do vocal recording.

We have a Studio Project C1 http://www.studioprojectsusa.com/c1.html that is so sensitive that can pick up a mouse pissing on cotton, really.

The only isolated area in my condo is the bathroom, so I setup the BOSS BR-1600 http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=574&ParentId=110, connect a foot switch and my headphones and recorded :) .

Jimmy Page was well known to have done this on many tracks through the years. 8) Mike

Are there any other players here with SoundClick (mp3 hosting) accounts?

The accounts are free and they let you park a lot of tracks on there! :wink:

Thouston? The thouston I know? Cheers buddy! Long time...

Of course I have something to share in the home recording department.
Just the other week I made this backtrack: Soul Thang Backtrack
And here's my own take: Soul Thang, with a solo guitar on top.

Drums is Beta Monkey drum loops. Bass, guitar and keys by me, more info at the song page.

/Goran

Yo Goran :!: Yeah, it's me. I've never seen you here, and am glad to see you. You didn't get banned from the 'other' site?

I listened to your excellent backing track and recorded my own 'thang', I called it Soul Thong http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7889650. I had to record mine first before I listened to yours because maybe than I wouldn't do a version :wink: .

How did you get the hyper-link to connect with name of the BT? I tried all kinds of code, and couldn't do it.

Hah! Nice take Tony! And I agree with Mike about the title...
:D :wink:

About "the other site"... I'm still hanging there but not as often. Chocked to hear you was banned. I heard several others went the same way for petty reasons...

No, I wasn't banned, I just decided not 'go' there anymore. If you post about being here, you could get banned, so I wouldn't say anything.

I have a bare bones funk track for you with just bass & drums: Neckbones http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7733846

Wow, another great track, but the B3 was a little busy, but nevertheless I had fun. Here's mine 'Shuffin' MF'er' http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7894293.
