It depends on your setup, my computer is pretty powerful, but not in a recorder friendly area and doesn't have good monitors.

My BR-1600 is setup in a great location here at home, plus I have Roland DS-50A digital monitors connected to it, so this works for me. http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=574&ParentId=110.

Digidesign makes Pro-tools,
not Digitech.

But in fact, I use pro-tools, and it works great,
once you learn how it works.
I think people are just intimidated by it.

Those are PA monitors, the Resolvs are small, but powerful home studio monitors.

Tony, have you had any problems with hiss in your BR1600? Mine does. Even with nothing plugged in it still hisses. I've also tried it through different plugs in different houses and it's always the same.

Just curious...

Mark, hiss or hum? If you're recording to close to the recorder with single coil pups, you can get hum.

It is incredible what you can do with the BR600. They tell me that you need to have some sort of drum thing going when you record, and it is not really easy, to me, to get the onboard drum machine to record. I use a Zoom G2 pedal for the drums, not that mine are any good. I am so used to having a drummer and working with him. I have trouble messing with a drum machine.

But right off the bat, you can sound really good with the BR600. I recorded drum machine, basic guitar track (which I messed up a little starting out) and a good vocal track on "Suzie Q" last night. It was a lot of fun, and I sound pretty good, specially as a singer (not like Fogerty though).

My office rig is ProTools

My home rig is Cubase4 w/ Tascam US428 front end into M-Audio BX8's

My travel rig is Cubase4 with the EMU1616M PCMCIA interface and little roland usb speakers.

and at a clients studio we just put in an Akai DPS24 MkII

and they are ALL of such quality to cut a good master with..

but then again a good song is a good song no matter how it is recorded...

Bill, arranging drums on the BR-600 is pretty easy, first all the drum patterns are broken down into six parts 'IN (intro), V1 (verse 1), F1 (fill 1), V2 (verse 2), F2 (fill 2) & E (end).

I always chose one of the verses to record to, this would be the main pattern of the song. So for example, I chose Blues1, and set the tempo at 80bpm. In Arrangement Mode I select V1 (verse 1) of Blues1 and set it play for 300 measures.

Here I would record a rhythm guitar track, complete with turnarounds, etc, etc. Than lay down a bass guitar track, than vocals and lastly a lead guitar track.

Now, I go back into Arrangement Mode and 'Insert' the other patterns, for example a IN (intro) to play for 1 measure, than maybe insert F1 (a fill) at the 8 measure (this depends on the song) and keep 'inserting' patterns until I'm happy with the arrangement. This is important, think about drum arrangement and not 'programming' drums.

This will also keep you from having to use two tracks to record the ZOOM drums, using the ZOOM may be faster for you but try the BR-600 on board drums.
