I can't remember if this has been posted before, if so then disregard this but here is a video of a French amateur radio operator making his own vacuum tubes.
I thought it was interesting, maybe you will too.

My drummer makes his own 1940's flathead ford hotrods. He knows a clockmaker who made me fret files. He also knows someone who makes valves, I've never met that person though.

Interesting. I have no interest in making my own vaccum tubes though, and blow up my nice amps or something. A few $$ every year or so, for perfect tubes, is well worth that to me :)
