The pro jr sounds $1000 better than the blues jr, which lets face it isnt hard. I found the blues jr to be a singularly ugly bland sounding amp that needs overloading with effects to add any character. It never sounds fat and clean, the gain is deplorable. I've done a few of the Billm mods to the circuit now, changed the valves so many times i've forgotten. I've tried 6 different speakers in it. Its just a poorly designed amp, the reverb is so noisy mainly because its so close to the power transformer. I removed the tank, extended the +/- leads to it. Mounted it on a ply board and now possition it 2ft away from the amp when i use it. Which isnt very often. At £470 each ($775) they are a utter rip off. Who these days makes a amp where the fixed bias is set way too hot. Compare the heat coming from the blues jr's 3, ecc83s and 2, el84's compared to a high gain marshalls 5, ecc83s and 4 el34's. I could heat the house from that amp. Fixed bias may have been acceptable 30-50 years ago, not today. You can get a lot better from anyone else for the same money. Peavey, marshall, laney all offer far better for less. Get towards lesser known brands such as ashdown/hayden, blackstar or even the much maligned bugera (which i think are a nice sounding amp let down by reliability issues) and the price/performance gap becomes more apparent.

Sorry i cant say anything good about it except its a usefull stool or coffee table in our rehearsall room. Not the usuall fender standard.

Niki,

thanks for your insight. i went on google after reading everyone's thoughts and i am very speechless to see that there are tons of other people who agree that Pro Jr is better than Blues Jr. it's quite amusing!

anyway, i realize i asked this already, but i wanted to know if there are significant differences between the Pro Jr. 10" speaker versus the Blues Jr. 12" speaker. (anyone reading, feel free to answer). i realize it means less low end, but do you think the Pro Jr. tone and character make up for it? do you think the 10" speaker is a significant downside to the amp, or is it only a minor thing?

thanks

A correctly balanced 10 or even 8" speaker can leave a 12" for dust in a guitar amp. I personaly beleive that a lot of amps use 12" because of the unfounded public opinion that they are better than 10".
Its simply not the case. The bassman is a 4x10. Ampeg make a very popular 8x10 cab. Both for bass amps. Ever hear of a bassman lacking bass, no not ever. Because the speakers are balanced to the amp. A 50watt 12" speaker in a 15watt amp isnt even going to get cone cry when the amps maxed out. That defeats 50% of traditional valve amp sound (hendrix's plexi's were into 4x25watt speaker cabs as an example). I also beleive the G75 is such a popular speaker and has been a mainstay of marshall since 1980 odd because of its mid focus rather than bass.

listened to some youtube demos for the Pro J...some of them sounded kinda "farty" with the gain turned up...i'm guessing/hoping that mic distortion or bad quality recording are to blame?

To my knowledge the footswitch is never included. The only difference between types is the speaker and the covering. Not a lot of difference if you ask me. I tried 6 speakers to improve mine, non changed it that much. What you do need to make sure of is that you buy the MIM one. It is a lot better than the earlier MIA ones (mia up till 98). Theres a lot better out there for less money, even from fender. The pro junior owns it, invest in a decent reverb and your set. If your after a tweed the 57 champ looks the business.

My Hotrod Deluxe came with a footswitch.

The NOS has a Jensen C12N, JJ Cale uses the black B jr, sounds good when "he" plays it. I put a 5751 in the first position in mine and I keep the mids low around 2, bass 2, treble 8, reverb about 1.5 , makes it sound more Fendery. New Champ reissue is the balls.

I have to agree with Nicki here .Bought mine 7 years ago and although it is loud it is not a good sounding amp. How they sell it without a foot switch is just mind boggling and the reverb sucked. I have heard they corrected this but cant say for sure ,also why do you have to buy a new amp that is famous for sounding best getting modded right off the bat. I would look into something else.

My Hot Rod also came with a footswitch. And as far as sounds go, I love it, just wish I could turn the volume up above 1 1/2
